Tesla Cybertruck EXPLODES In Front of Trump International Hotel In Las Vegas; 1 Dead, 7 Injured

UPDATE (02/01/25): The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck has been identified as 37-year-old active-duty U.S. Army soldier, Matthew Livelsberger, according to The Associated Press, citing Law Enforcement Officials. He began active duty in the Army in January 2006 and reached the rank of Master Sergeant. Livelsberger spent time at the base formerly known as Fort Bragg, a massive Army base in North Carolina that is home to the Army Special Forces Command. The U.S. Army Special Operations Command confirmed Livelsberger was on approved leave at the time of his death.

UPDATE 2: Billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has kept his followers up-to-date about the Cybertruck explosion on his social media platform, X. “We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,” Musk wrote in one post. “The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards,” he said in another post. “Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken.”

UPDATE:
Authorities have confirmed the Cybertruck contained gasoline and camp fuel containers, as well as large firework mortars. Video of the incident shows the truck exploding in a ball of fire, and fireworks can also be seen going off in all directions. A bystander can also be seen just feet from the truck as it goes up in flames.

A Tesla Cybertruck caught fire and exploded near the entrance of Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas this morning (Wednesday 1st January, 2025), killing one (1) person and injuring seven (7) others. Reports state that the Cybertruck was packed with fireworks-style mortars when it exploded in front of the hotel.

The Cybertruck reportedly pulled up outside the hotel around 8:40 AM local time, and it exploded about fifteen (15) to twenty (20) seconds later. The explosion killed the driver and injured seven (7) others.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff, Kevin McMahill, said during a Press Conference, “We were told that a 2024 Cybertruck pulled up to the front of the hotel, and in fact I can tell you it pulled right up to the glass entrance doors of the hotel.” He added, “We saw that smoke start showing from the vehicle and then a large explosion from the truck occurs.” He said a person inside the EV died and seven (7) people sustained minor injuries. “There does not appear to be any further threat to our community here now,” McMahil added.

He also said the Cybertruck was rented in Colorado.
The explosion happened just hours after fifteen (15) people were killed and more than thirty (30) others were injured in an attack involving a Ford pickup truck in New Orleans in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.

“We're very well aware of what has happened in New Orleans with the event that occurred there, and the number of victims there and the additional IEDs. So as you can imagine, with an explosion here on iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all of the precautions that we need to take to keep our community safe,” McMahill said.

First unveiled in 2019, the Cybertruck is a battery-powered EV and Tesla’s first truck. The vehicle gained attention for its post-apocalyptic styling. It was marketed as having a “bullet tough” stainless-steel frame and “basically rock-proof” armored glass, according to previous statements from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Musk posted on X on Wednesday: “The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything. We’ve never seen anything like this.”
Investigations are continuing.
