A man is dead and another injured following a fiery road traffic accident along the Uriah Butler Highway in Chaguanas last night (Thursday 26th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 64-year-old Bhisham Phillip of Montrose, Chaguanas. According to reports, Phillip was driving a silver Mazda RX-8 (PCZ 7033) with a passenger along the Northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, when he reportedly swerved in an attempt to avoid colliding with another vehicle, shortly after 10:00 PM. In doing so, however, he lost control of the car, which slammed into the metal railing near the pedestrian overpass in the vicinity of the Divali Nagar site in Chaguanas. Phillip was reportedly ejected from the car moments before it became engulfed in flames upon impact. Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded. A motorcyclist is dead following a road traffic accident in Canaan, Tobago, early this morning (Monday 16th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Shakeel Anthony Shade of Mason Hall, Les Coteaux Road. He was said to be a local footballer. According to reports, Shade was riding a motorcycle along with several other motorcyclists when he struck a car head-on near Smart City Supermarket, around 12:36 AM. He died upon impact. CCTV footage captured the fatal motorcycle crash. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash as family members and the local sporting fraternity mourn their tragic loss. Well Services Petroleum Company Limited has officially ended the search for the remains of 47-year-old rig worker, Pete Phillip of La Romaine, who was lost at sea when Rig 110 collapsed in the early hours on Sunday 22nd December, 2024 . He was among seventy-five (75) personnel on the rig at the time of the incident, in the Heritage Offshore East Field. The company confirmed the decision in a statement issued today (Monday 9th February, 2026), which said an intensive recovery operation involving both local and international specialists was launched in January, with the sole focus of locating Phillip. However, despite weeks of co-ordinated salvage and search activity, those efforts were unsuccessful. The company said all viable search areas have now been exhausted, leaving no further locations to explore. As a result, a decision was taken to discontinue recovery operations. A man is dead and another injured while digging a trench on a property in Maracas St. Joseph on Thursday (5th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Kevin Dennis. According to reports, Dennis tragically lost his life after a substantial mound of dirt collapsed on him, burying him alive. The incident occurred while workers were digging a trench on a property located along Santa Barbara Road in Maracas St. Joseph. Further reports indicate that a co-worker was also injured. Details of that person’s condition are unknown at this time. Dennis was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the accident. UPDATE (02/02/26): New video shows the extent of the damage sustained by the Blue Wave Harmony during berthing manoeuvers on Friday (30th January, 2026). According to reports, the hull of the recently-acquired vessel, the Blue Wave Harmony — the passenger and cargo boat which replaces the Cabo Star on the sea-bridge — was damaged this morning (Friday 30th January, 2026) during its second sea-trial sailing to the Port of Scarborough, Tobago. The incident occurred during the vessel’s berthing manoeuvers, and only its crew was onboard at the time. There have been no reports of injuries. Preliminary information indicates that weather conditions, including strong winds, were contributing factors. The Blue Wave Harmony arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on 22nd January, 2026 at the Port of Port-of-Spain. A man is dead following a road traffic accident along the Eastern Main Road in Arima a short while ago this morning (Wednesday 28th January, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Nigel Cain of Bon Air West, Arouca. He was said to be a well-known and popular maxi-taxi operator. According to reports, the driver of a blue 10-wheeler dump truck lost control of the vehicle and slammed into an oncoming brown Mitsubishi Sportero van (TDK 678), driven by Cain, along the Eastern Main Road, in the vicinity of the Aripo Detention Centre, around 10:00 AM. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway. The truck is said to have struck the driver’s side of Cain’s vehicle, causing extensive damage. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The 50-year-old truck driver of Sangre Grande alleges that while heading East along the Main Road, his braking system “locked,” causing him to lose control. A pedestrian has died at Hospital a day after he was struck by a van in Arima on Tuesday afternoon (20th January, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Ricardo Nicome of Arima. According to reports, Nicome was walking home with his wife along Subero Street, near the corner of La Chance Street, Arima, when he was suddenly struck by a van. The driver immediately stopped to render assistance to the victim. The impact caused Nicome to be knocked to the ground. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Arima Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, despite efforts by doctors, Nicome succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Wednesday evening (21st January, 2026). Doctors are trying to save the left arm of 69-year-old Hassina Mathura, who was seriously injured when a Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) bus rolled over it after she fell while exiting the vehicle in Palmyra on Thursday afternoon (15th January, 2026). Mathura was returning home from San Fernando, when the accident occurred — just about 100 feet away from her home. She remains in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital after undergoing emergency reconstructive surgery. According to reports, the PTSC bus driver, who was plying the Ste. Madeleine route, was heading East along the Naparima Mayaro Road, near AJ's Auto in Palmyra, around 1:00 PM, when he began slowing down to stop as a passenger attempted to exit the vehicle. A businessman is dead following a tree-cutting accident in Siparia on Monday morning (12th January, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Bishen Rampersadsingh of Jhulai Trace, Penal Rock Road. He was the owner of Bishen Rampersadsingh Sawmilling & Pallet Manufacturing Company. According to reports, Rampersadsingh and an employee were cutting a tree in the Siparia area, along David Jackman Trace, Quinam Road, around 9:20 AM, when it suddenly fell, trapping Rampersadsingh. Heritage Petroleum Company Limited (Heritage) said it continues to lend co-ordination support to Well Services Petroleum Company Limited in their continued effort to conduct salvage and recovery operations for Rig 110. In a Media Release today (Friday 9th January, 2026), Heritage said the operations “commenced on Monday 8th November, 2025 and are continuing.”  Rig 110 partially collapsed in the early hours on Sunday 22nd December, 2024 and resulted in the disappearance of 47-year-old Pete Phillip of La Romaine, a worker who was among seventy-five (75) personnel on the rig at the time of the incident, in the Heritage Offshore East Field. Two (2) men are dead following a horrific 4-vehicle road traffic accident in McBean, Couva, last night (Monday 29th December, 2025). According to reports, four (4) vehicles were involved in a collision along a stretch of road on the Southern Main Road, McBean, known as the “deadly stretch.” Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. A child is dead after a runaway truck loaded with hardware supplies, including concrete bricks, crashed into his home this afternoon (Monday 29th December, 2025) in Five Rivers, Arouca. The deceased has been identified as 7-year-old Gideon Smart. The tragic incident occurred while the child was reportedly playing in the yard of his family’s home. According to reports, the driver of the truck stopped on a hill in the area to offload hardware supplies. The driver reportedly switched off the engine, exited the vehicle and was about to “chock the wheels” to prevent it from rolling, when the truck suddenly began rolling downhill, with a loader still inside. The heavy vehicle quickly picked up momentum and ploughed directly into the family’s yard and home, along Savannah Drive Extension, where the child was playing at the time. A man is dead following a road traffic accident along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, near Gasparillo, early this morning (Sunday 28th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Eoin Kazim Peters of Arjoonsingh Drive, Dumfries Road, La Romaine. According to reports, Peters was driving a white Hyundai H100 truck (TCN 8807) along the Southbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, when he lost control and ran off the road near the Gasparillo Overpass, around 3:45 AM. The vehicle flipped and landed upside down, approximately thirty (30) feet off the road in some bushes, in the vicinity of Fens Warehouse. Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Peters pinned under the truck. A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway on Friday morning (26th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Sumraj Bhagwandeen of Jerningham Junction Road, Charlieville. According to reports, Police received a report that the body of a man was observed lying along the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, near Jerningham Junction, around 9:10 AM. Upon arrival at the scene, Officers of the Chaguanas Police Station and the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Freeport, found Bhagwandeen lying motionless on the roadway. A man is dead and four (4) others hospitalized following a road traffic accident along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, near the Piarco walkover, early this morning (Friday 26th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Emmanuel Ottley of St. Helena, who was ejected from the vehicle during the violent crash. According to reports, a silver Nissan Note (PDH 6719) was traveling West along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, around 3:54 AM, when, shortly after passing another vehicle, the car suddenly veered off the roadway and slammed into the metal railings along the side of the Highway. The car then ploughed into a bus shed, before crashing down into a ravine, which runs parallel to the roadway.  The impact caused the car to overturn, after which it collided violently with additional railings along the pedestrian walkover linking Oropune Gardens to the Highway, leaving the vehicle mangled. The deceased, who has not yet been identified, is described as a man of African descent who was wearing a grey three-quarter pants and a multi-coloured t-shirt. According to reports, a gold Nissan Almera (PBW 5161) was traveling West along the Eastern Main Road at a high rate of speed, between 2:00 AM and 2:20 AM, when, upon reaching the vicinity of My Care Pharmacy, near the St. Joseph Bridge, the vehicle reportedly struck a pothole. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Dennis Nehorah of La Romaine, San Fernando. According to reports, Nehorah's car, a light blue Mitsubishi Lancer (PBR 8914), crashed several feet off the Southbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, near the VOS Government Primary School, around 2:00 PM. The car then burst into flames with Nehorah inside, where he unfortunately died. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and distraught relatives soon arrived at the scene. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Zion Forbes of Caratal Road, Gasparillo. He was a front-seat passenger in a Nissan Sentra that collided with an Isuzu dump truck. Police said they received a report of a serious traffic collision along the Uriah Butler Highway, near ANSA Motors, around 2:30 AM, and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they observed a white Isuzu dump truck, driven by a man of St. Mary’s Village, Moruga, lodged in a drain directly in front of the ANSA Motors compound, facing South. A red-and-silver Nissan Sunny was also observed positioned on the far-right of the roadway, facing North. A man is dead following a 3-vehicle road traffic accident in Ste. Madeleine on Friday night (28th November, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old retired Prison Officer, Wayde Murray of Best Street, Cocoyea Village, San Fernando. Murray, a father of one (1), died the next day while being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital. According to reports, Murray was heading East in his Toyota Fielder wagon (PEF 508) with his girlfriend, Michele McCloud, in the front passenger seat, along Manahambre Road, near the Usine Pond, when he attempted to avoid a pothole in the road, around 7:00 PM. However, he swerved into the opposite lane and collided with a white Toyota Axio, driven by a woman.
