According to reports, at least five (5) people are dead and five (5) others injured after an Amazon Prime cargo plane overran the runway at Miami International Airport this afternoon (Sunday 6th September, 2026), crashing into multiple vehicles before catching fire. A full ground stop has been issued for the Airport. The terrifying incident is said to have occurred while the plane was attempting to land at the Airport, around 2:00 PM local time, according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Airport Officials. Authorities have not yet released further details on the fatalities or the injuries. According to the Customs and Excise Division, on Saturday 15th August, 2026, a male passenger arrived at the Piarco International Airport aboard JetBlue Airways Flight B617 from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York. In a Media Release on Friday (21st August, 2026), the Division said during the course of routine Customs operations, the passenger was found to be in possession of one (1) Ruger firearm, one (1) magazine and twelve (12) rounds of .380 ammunition. The passenger was formally charged under Sections 212(a) and 213(a) of the Customs Act , Chapter 78:01. The accused subsequently appeared before a Master of the High Court, on Tuesday 18th August, 2026. The charges were laid indictably, and the accused was not called upon to enter a plea. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said it is now following the potential development of two (2) systems in the Tropical Atlantic during the upcoming week. The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (Bank) has issued a statement regarding the ongoing investigation into a quantity of US Dollar (USD) currency that was earmarked to be shipped out of the country. According to reports, US $2 million in cash, allegedly stashed in a white crocus bag, was seized by Customs and Excise Officials on 25th June, 2026 at the South Terminal of Piarco International Airport. The cash, which was linked to NCB Merchant Bank, was being transported to Miami via Jamaica when Officials intervened over documentation and accountability requirements. NCB Merchant Bank has maintained that the money belongs to the bank and formed part of a legitimate transaction conducted in the ordinary course of business with another regulated financial institution. A plane carrying twelve (12) people — a pilot and eleven (11) skydivers — while on a skydiving outing in Missouri, crashed in a field and became engulfed in flames on Sunday morning (14th June, 2026), killing all aboard. The plane is said to have turned around for an unknown reason before crashing near a Highway. The Customs and Excise Division said it successfully intercepted a passenger attempting to smuggle marijuana into Trinidad and Tobago through the Piarco International Airport on Sunday (17th May, 2026). According to the Division in a Media Release today (Monday 18th May, 2026), “During routine passenger clearance operations, Customs Officers at the Airport referred a 22-year-old British national to the Red Line for further examination of their luggage. During the examination, Officers discovered a quantity of plant-like material concealed within the passenger’s baggage.
