TTPS Clarifies Misattributed CAPA Data In Media Publication

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said it wishes to address and correct misinformation published by a media entity regarding data attributed to the Crime and Problem Analysis Branch (CAPA). In a Media Release on Friday (24th April, 2026), the TTPS said, “The Crime and Problem Analysis Branch (CAPA) is firmly committed to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and integrity in all information disseminated, recognizing the significant impact that inaccurate or misleading data can have on public perception and confidence in the Organization.” According to the TTPS, “It has come to the attention of the TTPS that a recent media publication stated: ‘Recent CAPA data ranks Tobago Division as among the areas with the highest gang-related murders.’ The TTPS categorically states that CAPA has not produced, supported, or communicated any such analysis or conclusion. TWO (2) Friends Killed In Early Morning Crash In Plaisance Park

Two (2) men are dead following a horrific road traffic accident in Plaisance Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, early this morning (Saturday 25th April, 2026). The deceased have been identified as “Markie” and Tyrek James, aka “Skunk.” They were said to be friends. According to reports, the pair were in a silver motor vehicle (PBO 2365) when the crash occurred. Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene.  No further information is available at this time. Investigations are continuing into the fatal crash. WASA: Planned Water Interruption On Monday Across Several Areas of Trinidad

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers of planned water interruption due to maintenance works at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant Sub Station, between 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Monday (27th April, 2026). These works involve the replacement of transformers by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC). Customs And Excise Division Seizes Over $1.4M Marijuana Shipment In Port-of-Spain

The Customs and Excise Division successfully intercepted a shipment of marijuana at a Customs Bonded Area in Port-of-Spain on Tuesday (21st April, 2026). In a Media Release on Wednesday (22nd April, 2026), the Division said, “During routine operations, Customs Officers conducted examination of cargo which led to the discovery of eighteen (18) packages, containing a green plant-like material concealed within a household appliance. Officers from the Preventive Branch were subsequently contacted and responded to the location, where field testing confirmed the substance to be cannabis. The estimated street value of the seizure is $1,413,302.” An individual was arrested and formally charged in connection with the seizure. The accused subsequently appeared before a Master of the High Court and was granted bail in the sum of $1.5M with surety and reporting conditions. Finance Ministry: Extension of Time For Payment of Gaming Taxes

The Ministry of Finance is advising of an extension by the Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) in the timeframe for the payment of gaming taxes. In a Media Release today (Friday 24th April, 2026), the Ministry announced that payment of Gaming Tax will now commence on 1st July, 2026 for taxes incurred during the period 1st April, 2025 to 31st March, 2027. 19-Year-Old Student Found Dead In Barataria Home After Battling Examination-Related Anxiety

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) said it has noted with concern, the recent media reports relating to a teenager who tragically lost his life due to examination-related anxiety. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Kevin Siberan of Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria. He was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at his home with an electrical cord around his neck, on the evening of Thursday 16th April, 2026, in what Police are treating as a suspected suicide. T&TEC To Restore Lighting Along Elmina Clarke-Allen Highway After Vandalism

UPDATE: T&TEC said at 8:41 PM, over 60% of the street lights on the Elmina Clarke-Allen Highway were switched on, temporarily powered via mobile substations. Another substation will be energized shortly to power the additional lights. Repair work will then continue, to supply the lights from the grid. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising that repair and restoration work along the Elmina Clarke-Allen Highway will commence later this evening (Thursday 23rd April, 2026), following a vandalism incident that resulted in all streetlights along the roadway being out of service. Preventive Detention Orders Issued For Penal Businesswoman Fareeda Balgobin, Close Male Relative

Preventive Detention Orders (PDOs) have been issued for Penal businesswoman Fareeda Alladin Balgobin and a close male relative, days after they were arrested by Police in connection with the  alleged false imprisonment and torture of 42-year-old Sabita Basdeo . The orders, which were dated 20th April, 2026 and signed by Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, were officially gazetted on Tuesday (21st April, 2026). Fraud Squad Urges Vigilance Over Fraudulent Cheques, Online Scams

The Fraud Squad of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said it has noted a surge in the instances of fraudulent cheque transactions and online scams, specifically smishing (fraudulent text messages) and phishing (fraudulent emails). In a Media Release today (Thursday 23rd April, 2026), the TTPS said, “These crimes are affecting unsuspecting individuals and businesses resulting in financial loss, financial accounts being compromised, disruption of business operations and potential legal complications.” To protect yourself against fraudulent cheques, members of the public are strongly advised to: Verify cheque authenticity directly with the issuing bank before acceptance. Exercise caution with unusually large or urgent payments. Train staff to recognize red flags such as mismatched details or suspicious endorsements. 32-Year-Old Hairdresser Found Dead In Cunupia Apartment After Heated Dispute, Pregnancy Revelation

A woman was found dead at her apartment in Cunupia on Friday evening (17th April, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Anna Lalla, a self-employed hairdresser. Lalla, who may have been pregnant at the time, was discovered unresponsive at her home in an apparent suicide. According to reports, a male acquaintance, who had been in a relationship with Lalla, returned to her apartment, located along Elohim Road, off Munroe Road, after becoming concerned when he was unable to contact her. However, upon entering the residence using a spare key, he allegedly found her hanging from a bedroom door. A Municipal Police Officer has been charged with the murder of Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley , as well as other firearms-related charges, following the deadly incident which took place at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station early Sunday morning (19th April, 2026). The Officer has been identified as 28-year-old PC Jivan Cooper of La Sophie Trace, Claxton Bay. He is also facing additional charges, including robbery with violence, trafficking of firearms and possession of ammunition, following legal advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Roger Gaspard, SC, on Tuesday (21st April, 2026). Municipal Police Station Heist: 10 Persons In Custody — 43 Firearms, Over 900 Rounds of Ammo Recovered

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a total of ten (10) persons are now in custody and forty-three (43) firearms and over 900 rounds of assorted ammunition successfully recovered, from the date of the reported theft of guns and ammunition from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, to this present time.  This, as investigations continue into the theft and murder of Acting Woman Corporal Anusha Eversley , which occurred in the Southern Division on Sunday (19th April, 2026). In a Media Release today (Tuesday 21st April, 2026), the TTPS said a series of targeted and strategic operations were conducted in the Claxton Bay district, between Sunday and today. During one such operation, Officers of the Highway Patrol South Operations Team intercepted a white Kia K2700, with three (3) male occupants. 41-Year-Old Couva Man Held With Firearms And Ammunition

A man was arrested and two (2) firearms and quantities of ammunition seized, during an Operation Steady Guard exercise, conducted in the Central Division on Monday (20th April, 2026). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the exercise was conducted between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, and included Officers of the Western Division Task Force.  During the exercise, Officers proceeded to Calcutta Road, Couva, where the home of a 41-year-old male suspect was searched. While nothing illegal was found inside the house, a subsequent search of a rental car on the property resulted in the discovery of two (2) Glock pistols, five (5) magazines and a quantity of assorted ammunition, on the floor of the front passenger seat. The male suspect who was present at the time of the search was arrested in connection with the finds. The exercise was sanctioned by Snr. Supt. Williams and spearheaded by Insp. Grant.  Investigations are ongoing.

49-Year-Old Man Shot Dead, Wife Wounded While Children Slept In Valencia Home — Police Investigating

A man is dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident in Valencia early Monday morning (20th April, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Shaun Charles of Emon Lane, Valencia, while the wounded woman, his common-law wife, is 40-year-old Clarisia James. According to reports, Charles and James were asleep along with their two (2) children at the residence, when several loud explosions rang out as gunmen opened fire in the home, shortly after 3:30 AM. Within moments, the victims realized they had been shot. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Officers assigned to the Eastern Division responded to the report and arrived to find both victims suffering from gunshot injuries. Several spent 9mm shell casings were observed at the scene, along with visible blood evidence. 23-Year-Old Man Arrested In Moruga For Excavator Parts Theft

UPDATE (24/04/26): A 23-year-old Moruga man, identified as Jehu Buchoon, has been found guilty in connection with a report of larceny made on Friday 17th April, 2026, in the Moruga district. The matter was heard at the South AJIPA Court before Master Grey, where Buchoon pleaded guilty and was granted bail with surety in the sum of $55,000. As part of the bail conditions, the accused is required to reside at his home address and report to the Moruga Police Station on given days. The matter has since been transferred to the Princes Town District Court. The next hearing is scheduled for 26th May, 2026. Investigations were conducted under the supervision of W/Supt. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said it can confirm that six (6) persons have been detained in connection with the ongoing investigation into the homicide of a Municipal Police Officer , identified as Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley, and the theft of several firearms and quantities of ammunition at the Kings Wharf compound, San Fernando. In a Media Release this morning (Monday 20th April, 2026), the TTPS said those detained include two (2) Municipal Police Officers, two (2) females, and two (2) other males. UPDATE:  Reports state that (2) suspects, identified as “Rhino” and “Son Son,” are now being actively sought in connection with the brutal quadruple murder in Morvant. Police are said to be on high alert for possible reprisal shootings in the Belmont and Morvant districts, amid fears of escalating gang retaliation following the killing of the child. A child and three (3) adults are dead following a brutal shooting incident on the Lady Young Road in Morvant last night (Sunday 19th April, 2026). A fourth adult was also wounded.
