TTPS: Palo Seco Man To Be Charged With Murder of 12-Year-Old Girl

A 26-year-old man of Beach Road, Palo Seco, is to be charged with murder following investigations surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedes Layne of Los Iros Road, Erin, who was reported missing on Saturday 6th June, 2026, and whose body was subsequently discovered along Carapal Road, Erin, on Sunday 7th June, 2026.  In a Media Release a short while ago this afternoon (Wednesday 10th June, 2026), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said investigations were conducted by Officers of the Homicide Bureau and advice was received today from Special Advisor Ms. Honore Paul, to charge the suspect, who is due to appear before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (11th June, 2026). 54-Year-Old Curepe Man Dies At Hospital Days After Alleged Land Dispute Shooting

A man has died from injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Curepe on 29th May, 2026, after remaining hospitalized for several days. The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Inshan Goolsir of Abdool Lane, Curepe. He was allegedly shot by his sister’s boyfriend during a confrontation involving a land dispute.  Goolsir succumbed to his injuries at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope on Saturday (6th June, 2026). According to reports, Officers were alerted to a shooting at Abdool Lane, Southern Main Road, Curepe, around 10:30 PM on Friday 29th May, 2026. Upon arrival, they found Goolsir lying inside a drain surrounded by residents. The victim appeared to have fallen onto a water pipe, causing water to spray around him as he lay wounded and moaning in pain. Burnt Body Found Inside Vehicle In Wallerfield Near Prior Murders — Police Investigating

The charred remains of a man was found in Wallerfield on Sunday (7th June, 2026). The deceased is believed to be Clint Gomez, also known by the alias “Milky,” as official confirmation is pending. According to reports, the body was found inside a vehicle near Block 5 on Moonan Road. A District Medical Officer (DMO) later ordered the removal of the remains to the Forensic Science Centre in St. James, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Police have not yet released further details. Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the murder. The discovery has renewed attention on the Moonan Road area, which has been linked to several serious crimes in recent years. The Ministry of Finance said it has been brought to the attention of the Authority that person(s) bearing fraudulent identification card(s), depicting the logos of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT), the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (FIUTT) of the Ministry of Finance, and the Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, are presenting themselves to the public as official representative(s) of these entities. In a Media Release today (Monday 8th June, 2026), the Ministry said the FIUTT “hereby issues an urgent advisory to the public regarding these fraudulent identification card(s) currently in circulation. BODY of 26-Year-Old Female Ministry Employee Found Inside Her El Socorro Home

The body of a woman was found inside her home in El Socorro on Friday evening (5th June, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Aquilah Rebekah Henry of Oudan Road, El Socorro. She was an employee of the Ministry of National Security, attached to the Police Administration Building as a Clerk II. According to reports, Police and Emergency Health Services responded to a call for assistance at Henry’s residence, shortly after 6:30 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered her unresponsive inside a room of the home, in an apparent suicide. Henry’s father told Officers that he had last seen his daughter earlier that morning. Concerned after not hearing from her throughout the day, he later went to check on her and made the tragic discovery. A 26-year-old man is currently in Police custody as investigators continue enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedez Layne of Los Iros, Erin , whose body was discovered earlier today (Sunday 7th June, 2026), hours after she was reported missing. In a Media Release this evening, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said Mercedez was reported missing at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday (6th June, 2026) by her grandfather, of Lorensotte North Trace, Rancho Quemado. According to the report, around 11:30 AM on the same date, the grandfather placed his granddaughter, who had spent the previous night at his residence, into a vehicle, intended to transport the child to her home at Los Iros Beach Road, Erin. However, information later received indicated that Mercedez never arrived at her destination. UPDATE 8:  Police have confirmed that the 26-year-old man in custody is to be charged with murder following investigations surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedes Layne. The suspect has been publicly identified as Richard Renales of Dickie Trace, Beach Road, Palo Seco. Renales is expected to appear before a High Court Master on Thursday (11th June, 2026). The charge is expected to be formally laid by Woman Corporal Dyer-Baptiste of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III. Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) recovered two (2) intact stolen vehicles and one (1) which had been completely stripped, during a co-ordinated anti-crime exercise conducted in the Sangre Grande District on Friday (5th June, 2026). A 30-year-old Charlieville man is scheduled to appear before the South District Masters’ Court after investigations revealed that a reported kidnapping was fabricated, resulting in significant Police resources being deployed unnecessarily. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), during an operation conducted between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Thursday (4th June, 2026), Officers of the Central Division arrested Daoud Mohammed, 30, of Assaraf Road, Charlieville, Chaguanas, for the offence of wasteful employment of the Police. A business owner’s vehicle was reportedly targeted and robbed of $67,000 in cash outside his home in Gasparillo on Wednesday afternoon (3rd June, 2026), less than an hour after he withdrew the money from a bank. According to reports, the businessman visited Republic Bank Limited (RBL) at Valpark Shopping Plaza, Valsayn, and withdrew $67,000 in cash, around 3:30 PM. The money was placed inside a large brown envelope before he returned to his black Toyota Corolla and drove home. Upon arriving at his residence, the man parked the vehicle in an open area near his home, around 4:30 PM. He then went inside, leaving the vehicle unlocked with its windows down. UPDATE 2:  One of the deceased victims, Oren Danglade, also known as “Grimey,” was previously linked to investigations into the murder of 33-year-old Jamal Carter, also known as “Big Joe,” who was shot dead in Morvant on 16th May, 2026. In that incident, Carter, of Coconut Drive, Morvant, was liming near a wooden structure at Arneaud Avenue off Lady Young Road, when three (3) armed men approached and opened fire. Crime scene investigators recovered twenty-six (26) spent 9mm shell casings and one (1) live round. Two (2) siblings are dead following a brutal shooting incident in Longdenville, Chaguanas, last night (Thursday 4th June, 2026). Officers of the North Eastern Division (NED) rescued a woman from a vehicle in the La Fillette district, and arrested a male suspect, following a report of kidnapping, which occurred on Monday (1st June, 2026). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), reports indicate that a female victim was at her Diego Martin home, around 7:05 PM, when a man known to her came to the house and asked to speak with her. When she refused, he allegedly grabbed her, resulting in a struggle. UPDATE 2:   The vendor, identified as 35-year-old Rajindera Ali of Enterprise, Chaguanas, appeared before a Chaguanas District Judge on Thursday (4th June 2026), where he was granted $20,000 bail after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from the incident. Ali was arrested following an operation along Narsaloo Ramaya Road, near Price Plaza. Investigators claim that during enquiries, the vendor admitted to obtaining several sacks of potatoes from the Claxton Bay Dump before allegedly offering them for sale. He has been charged with littering and illegally operating a roadside stall. However, Police say additional charges may be laid, pending the outcome of public health tests being conducted on the potatoes. The Office of the Attorney General is seeking to clarify misinformation currently circulating on certain social media platforms regarding the duration of the ongoing State of Public Emergency.  In a Media Release this afternoon (Wednesday 3rd June, 2026), the Attorney General’s Office said, “Pursuant to the procedures established by the Constitution, the State of Emergency remains in effect until Midnight on June 17th, 2026, and not June 3rd, 2026 , as erroneously reported on these social media platforms.” According to the Office, the facts surrounding the State of Emergency are as follows: By Legal Notice No. 39 of 2026, the President declared, by Proclamation, that a State of Public Emergency existed in Trinidad and Tobago with effect from March 3, 2026. A woman has died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, days after she was critically injured in a collision early Monday morning (1st June, 2026) in Cunupia, involving an electric scooter and a motor vehicle. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Venezuelan national, Rusimine Riaz, of Mon Plasir Road, Cunupia. According to reports, the collision occurred around 2:10 AM along Jerningham Junction Road in the vicinity of Lucky Junction. The body of a Venezuelan national was found in Morvant on Monday morning (1st June, 2026). The deceased, who was murdered, has been identified as 23-year-old Alexis Enrique Pineda. According to reports, Officers were on mobile patrol, around 6:15 AM, when they received information from the Command Centre that a body had been found at the corner of 1st Caledonia Road and Tractor Hill, Morvant. The body was said to have been discovered by garbage collectors who were passing through the area, shortly after 5:30 AM.   Upon arrival at the location, Officers discovered Pineda lying motionless on his back, partially covered with a bloodstained bedsheet.
