According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a Chaguanas businessman was granted bail with surety in the sum of TT $50,000 by a Justice of the Peace (JP), after he was charged with fraudulent conversion valued at TT $5,500, by Fraud Squad investigators.  Shamir Rafique was granted bail by JP Carl Dattoo and is expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Wednesday (2nd September, 2026). Reports indicate that a victim paid a man a sum of money in November 2025, that represented a down-payment for the purchase, installation and delivery of a glass shopfront with back glass, consisting of two (2) fixed panels and one (1) commercial door. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Chaguaramas, Longdenville, Cunupia, Arima and Matelot on Tuesday (1st September, 2026). A gyro operator suffered burns about the body during a violent attempted robbery at a gyro cart along Montrose Main Road, Chaguanas, early Thursday morning (27th August, 2026). According to reports, the operator of the gyro cart, located near Subway, was approached by two (2) masked men, both dressed in dark clothing, around 3:00 AM. One of the men announced a robbery before throwing kerosene on the victim and the counter of the business. The suspect then set the kerosene alight, causing burn injuries to the operator and damage to the gyro cart. As the attack unfolded, however, the victim armed himself with a cutlass and struck the first suspect several times about the body, causing injuries. The injured suspect — a 14-year-old boy — then ran South through the Subway compound and escaped. His accomplice fled in the opposite direction on a bicycle along Montrose Main Road. A woman is dead following a shooting incident in St. James on Friday afternoon (28th August, 2026). The deceased has not yet been identified. However, she was said to be a hearing-impaired mother of four (4) who was unable to speak. According to reports, during a separate but nearby incident, a man pulled out a firearm at Dundonald Hill, St. James, and began shooting indiscriminately into the air and in different directions. During the chaotic gunfire, one of the bullets struck the woman in the head. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. The wounded victim was rushed to Hospital, however, despite efforts to save her, she was subsequently pronounced dead. The gunman was later apprehended. According to reports, Kiss Baking Company Limited has quietly adjusted prices of several of its popular snack products, with distributors and supermarkets having already received a revised price list. Prices for some of the company’s snack cakes increased on Monday 24th August, 2026. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said a 22-year-old soldier, identified as Rayshaun Ferrier, has been charged with home invasion following an incident at Samuel Cooper Trace, Fifth Company Village, Moruga, on Friday 21st August, 2026. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said it is aware of an unverified report concerning possible threats to Embassies, Diplomatic Facilities and Government Buildings. In a Media Release earlier today (Saturday 29th August, 2026), the TTPS said the information is “being treated with the seriousness and operational sensitivity required. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), three (3) persons were arrested after Officers seized 33.2 kilogrammes of marijuana and 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition during “Operation RESOLUTE Shield” in Tobago. The exercise was conducted in the Crown Point Police Station District between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM this morning (Saturday 29th August, 2026). Acting on information received, Officers exercised their powers under the State of Emergency and searched a residence at Young Street, Canaan. During the search, they discovered a quantity of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $1,105,800, along with the ammunition. The Ministry of Education is advising the public that the initial review of all 45,953 applications received for the 2026 School Supplies and Book Grant has been completed. The Ministry said it is now undertaking the necessary final verification checks to confirm eligibility and ensure that the available assistance is directed to the most vulnerable applicants. In a Media Release on Thursday (27th August, 2026) the Ministry said it expects to have completed final verification for approximately 10,000 applications by Friday (28th August, 2026). Final verification of the remaining applications is expected to be completed by Wednesday 2nd September, 2026. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), three (3) men have been arrested after allegedly attempting to trick a company out of more than $40,000 worth of sausages. The TTPS said around 8:30 PM last night (Thursday 27th August, 2026), a company representative went to the Erin Police Station and reported that earlier that day, around 10:00 AM, a person claiming to be a supermarket employee placed an order for 100 cases of Chicken Franks (400g) valued at $24,000, and sixty-one (61) cases of Chicken Franks (Jumbo) valued at $17,019 — a total of $41,019. Around 12:00 PM, a flatbed transport truck arrived on the compound and the aforementioned items were loaded on the truck and the driver drove off. Two (2) men are dead following a brutal shooting incident in Morvant on Wednesday afternoon (26th August, 2026). The deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Shondell Hislop of Mon Repos Road, Morvant, and 41-year-old Nigel Phillip of Senior Street, Belle Eau Road, Belmont. According to reports, Hislop and Phillip were among a group of people gathered outside K Mini Mart on Mon Repos Road, when a silver SUV pulled up, shortly after 3:00 PM. Three (3) armed men alighted from the vehicle wearing black jerseys, black jeans, bulletproof vests, ski masks and caps, before opening fire — sending the group scampering for safety. A woman reportedly lost $40,000 in cash when her handbag was stolen from a business place in Woodbrook on Thursday (27th August, 2026) in front of numerous witnesses. According to CCTV footage of the incident, the woman was seated at a table with her white handbag on a chair next to her at a restaurant, when a man wearing a green shirt, grey shorts and black sneakers walked up to her, grabbed the bag then ran off in a matter of seconds. The woman was unaware of what took place. However, witnesses alerted her that her bag was stolen and an alarm was raised. While unconfirmed, it is believed the woman may have earlier withdrawn the cash from her bank and was followed to the food establishment in Woodbrook, where she was targeted. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a 38-year-old man who was charged in connection with a shooting with intent investigation in Princes Town, was granted bail with surety in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared before the South B-1 Master’s Court on Tuesday (25th August, 2026). The TTPS said Marlon Pope of Temple Street, California, was arrested following continued enquiries into a report of shooting with intent, made on Thursday 13th August, 2026 at Manahambre Road, Princes Town. Pope was charged with shooting with intent and discharging a firearm within forty (40) metres of a public road. The matter came before Master Guerra-Abraham, where both charges remained as laid. The accused was granted bail with surety in the sum of $75,000. A Status Hearing is scheduled for 20th January, 2027.  The investigation was conducted by PC Chaitram. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Morvant on Tuesday morning (25th August, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Jabari Miller, also known as “Jah,” who was a self-employed welder. According to reports, Miller was carrying out ceiling work at a house in Second Caledonia, Morvant, along with three (3) other people, when a lone, masked gunman entered the property and opened fire, shortly after 11:20 AM. The gunman then fled the scene and Miller was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds about the body. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. The victim was subsequently conveyed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Crime scene investigators recovered eleven (11) spent .40-calibre shells.
