Hearing-Impaired Woman Shot Dead In St. James — Stray Bullet To The Head

A woman is dead following a shooting incident in St. James on Friday afternoon (28th August, 2026). The deceased has not yet been identified. However, she was said to be a hearing-impaired mother of four (4) who was unable to speak.

According to reports, during a separate but nearby incident, a man pulled out a firearm at Dundonald Hill, St. James, and began shooting indiscriminately into the air and in different directions. During the chaotic gunfire, one of the bullets struck the woman in the head.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. The wounded victim was rushed to Hospital, however, despite efforts to save her, she was subsequently pronounced dead.

The gunman was later apprehended. While Police were initially unable to recover the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, investigators later learned that the suspect had allegedly handed the weapon over to his cousin, who then concealed it. The cousin was also arrested and Police eventually recovered the firearm.

Both cousins were conveyed to the St. James Police Station. Alarmingly, the men were reportedly placed in the same holding cell, despite being detained in connection with the same offence.

The decision is said to have angered Senior Officers after it was brought to their attention, as keeping suspects linked to the same offence together is not standard Police procedure and can potentially compromise the investigation.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting.

More on this as it becomes available.
