A 26-year-old man of Beach Road, Palo Seco, is to be charged with murder following investigations surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedes Layne of Los Iros Road, Erin, who was reported missing on Saturday 6th June, 2026, and whose body was subsequently discovered along Carapal Road, Erin, on Sunday 7th June, 2026.  In a Media Release a short while ago this afternoon (Wednesday 10th June, 2026), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said investigations were conducted by Officers of the Homicide Bureau and advice was received today from Special Advisor Ms. Honore Paul, to charge the suspect, who is due to appear before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (11th June, 2026). A man has died from injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Curepe on 29th May, 2026, after remaining hospitalized for several days. The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Inshan Goolsir of Abdool Lane, Curepe. He was allegedly shot by his sister’s boyfriend during a confrontation involving a land dispute.  Goolsir succumbed to his injuries at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope on Saturday (6th June, 2026). According to reports, Officers were alerted to a shooting at Abdool Lane, Southern Main Road, Curepe, around 10:30 PM on Friday 29th May, 2026. Upon arrival, they found Goolsir lying inside a drain surrounded by residents. The victim appeared to have fallen onto a water pipe, causing water to spray around him as he lay wounded and moaning in pain. The charred remains of a man was found in Wallerfield on Sunday (7th June, 2026). The deceased is believed to be Clint Gomez, also known by the alias “Milky,” as official confirmation is pending. According to reports, the body was found inside a vehicle near Block 5 on Moonan Road. A District Medical Officer (DMO) later ordered the removal of the remains to the Forensic Science Centre in St. James, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Police have not yet released further details. Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the murder. A 26-year-old man is currently in Police custody as investigators continue enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedez Layne of Los Iros, Erin , whose body was discovered earlier today (Sunday 7th June, 2026), hours after she was reported missing. In a Media Release this evening, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said Mercedez was reported missing at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday (6th June, 2026) by her grandfather, of Lorensotte North Trace, Rancho Quemado. According to the report, around 11:30 AM on the same date, the grandfather placed his granddaughter, who had spent the previous night at his residence, into a vehicle, intended to transport the child to her home at Los Iros Beach Road, Erin. However, information later received indicated that Mercedez never arrived at her destination. UPDATE 8:  Police have confirmed that the 26-year-old man in custody is to be charged with murder following investigations surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedes Layne. The suspect has been publicly identified as Richard Renales of Dickie Trace, Beach Road, Palo Seco. Renales is expected to appear before a High Court Master on Thursday (11th June, 2026). The charge is expected to be formally laid by Woman Corporal Dyer-Baptiste of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III. UPDATE 7:  New surveillance video has emerged, recorded on Saturday (6th June, 2026), which shows the suspect’s station wagon entering Los Iros Road, where he was supposed to drop off Mercedes, before coming to a stop near a supermarket. UPDATE 2:  One of the deceased victims, Oren Danglade, also known as “Grimey,” was previously linked to investigations into the murder of 33-year-old Jamal Carter, also known as “Big Joe,” who was shot dead in Morvant on 16th May, 2026. In that incident, Carter, of Coconut Drive, Morvant, was liming near a wooden structure at Arneaud Avenue off Lady Young Road, when three (3) armed men approached and opened fire. Crime scene investigators recovered twenty-six (26) spent 9mm shell casings and one (1) live round. Detectives are now examining whether the deadly attack in Malick on Friday (5th June, 2026) may be linked to ongoing gang conflicts and retaliatory violence connected to recent murders in East Port-of-Spain and Morvant. Two (2) siblings are dead following a brutal shooting incident in Longdenville, Chaguanas, last night (Thursday 4th June, 2026). The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Brian “Regis” Clarke and his elder sister, 55-year-old Margarita Clarke. Both lived along the Longdenville Old Road. Reports state that the siblings were shot and killed by a lone masked gunman who stormed their residence, around 8:00 PM. The body of a Venezuelan national was found in Morvant on Monday morning (1st June, 2026). The deceased, who was murdered, has been identified as 23-year-old Alexis Enrique Pineda. According to reports, Officers were on mobile patrol, around 6:15 AM, when they received information from the Command Centre that a body had been found at the corner of 1st Caledonia Road and Tractor Hill, Morvant. The body was said to have been discovered by garbage collectors who were passing through the area, shortly after 5:30 AM.   Upon arrival at the location, Officers discovered Pineda lying motionless on his back, partially covered with a bloodstained bedsheet. He was clad in a three-quarter jeans, a white vest bearing apparent bloodstains and a black sneaker. A man is dead following a stabbing incident at a home in Fyzabad on Sunday (31st May, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Micah Joseph of John Jules Street, Fyzabad. He was a father of two (2) young children. According to relatives, Joseph went to the home of his children’s mother, located at Easy Street, Fyzabad, to drop off their two (2) infant children, when an altercation occurred. During the incident, he was allegedly stabbed and sustained fatal injuries. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the residence. However, Joseph was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have since detained the woman’s current boyfriend for questioning. Three (3) men are dead following a brutal shooting incident at a residence in Ste. Madeleine early this morning (Monday 1st June, 2026). A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident in Matura on Friday afternoon (29th May, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Jaden Diaz of Lower Rio Grande, Matura. According to reports, Officers assigned to the Matura Police Station were alerted to disturbances at a property along Lower Rio Grande Road, and responded to the location, around 3:05 PM. Upon arrival, Officers reportedly observed Diaz outside an unfinished concrete structure. While conducting inquiries, an Officer allegedly noticed what appeared to be cannabis plants growing at the rear of the property. Police have alleged that 24-year-old Kaia Sealy was armed with a Glock 9mm pistol and fired at them during the highly-controversial fatal encounter on 20th January, 2026 in St. Augustine , in which her common-law husband, 31-year-old Joshua Samaroo, was killed. Police also allege that the firearm used by Sealy was recovered from the vehicle driven by Samaroo, in which she was a passenger. Sealy has since been charged with manslaughter and warrants have been issued for her arrest in connection with the Police-involved shooting of Samaroo. She, however, has insisted that she is not a gangster and has never held a gun in her life. Questions still remain as to why Sealy and Samaroo fled from Police in the first place on that fateful day in January, instead of pulling aside when Officers attempted to intercept their vehicle, and why Police subsequently opened fire while Samaroo’s hands were raised in the air. The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Ricardo Diaz, an employee of Proman. According to reports, Diaz was driving his black BYD SUV (PEK 2887) along Rivulet Road, near the Point Lisas Industrial Estate and in the vicinity of the National Energy Corporation, West of the Brechin Castle traffic lights, when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle, shortly before 5:00 PM. Diaz was said to be the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time and sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. A man is dead following a stabbing incident near a bar in Tacarigua last night (Sunday 24th May, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Nigel Foster of Thavenot Street, Tacarigua. According to reports, Foster was liming near “Tip C Corner Bar” on Huggins Street, when he became involved in an argument with a man identified as 49-year-old Darryl Harding of Nayack Street, Tacarigua, around 6:30 PM. The argument soon escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Foster once in the upper leg. Foster ran from the scene before collapsing near the corner of Deosaran Street, while the attacker fled. Former Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, has publicly challenged key aspects of the investigation into the Police-involved shooting incident on 20th January, 2026 in St. Augustine, which claimed the life of 31-year-old Joshua Samaroo and critically injured his girlfriend, 24-year-old Kaia Sealy . Griffith has raised ten (10) major concerns regarding evidence, Police tactics, forensic procedures and use of force.
