Met Office EXTENDS Adverse Weather Alert Until Sunday Afternoon

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has extended its Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) until 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon (19th July, 2026). The Alert, which was initially scheduled to expire at 5:00 PM this afternoon (Saturday 18th July, 2026), has also been expanded to include not only Trinidad, but Tobago and surrounding marine waters. According to the Met Office, there will be a temporary lull in rainfall and thunderstorm activity during the late afternoon, evening and the early part of tonight (Saturday 18th July, 2026). This stabilizing effect is heavily aided by a significant concentration of Saharan dust present over the area. However, unsettled conditions are forecast after Midnight.   The Met Office notes that an approaching Tropical Wave, interacting with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), will trigger showers and thunderstorms. Adverse Weather Alert In Effect For EIGHT (8) Hours Today Due To Active ITCZ

UPDATE:   The Met Office has extended this Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) until 2:00 PM on Sunday (19th July, 2026). An approaching Tropical Wave, interacting with the ITCZ, will trigger showers and thunderstorms after Midnight and into Sunday. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for eight (8) hours today (Saturday 18th July, 2026). The Alert began at 9:00 AM and will remain in effect until 5:00 PM for Trinidad, particularly Southern regions of the island. According to the Met Office, there is a high potential for heavy showers and thunderstorms associated with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Significant rainfall accumulations are likely, particularly along Southern areas of Trinidad. Street flooding, flash flooding and localized ponding are likely to occur.
