PTSC Issues Statement On Allegation of Bus Driver Discourtesy

The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) said it is aware of a social media post currently circulating which alleges discourteous conduct by a bus driver towards passengers, while onboard one of the Corporation's services. In a statement issued today (Sunday 22nd February, 2026), the PTSC said, “The matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness, and the Corporation has initiated an internal investigation to fully establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Appropriate action will be taken upon the conclusion of this process. We remain firmly committed to providing a safe, respectful and reliable public transport service. The Anjuman Sunnat-ul-Jamaat Association (ASJA) has announced that the holy month of Ramadan 1447AH will officially begin at sunset on Wednesday (18th February, 2026), with the first day of fasting to be observed on Thursday (19th February, 2026). The Government of Trinidad and Tobago previously  declared a public holiday on Friday 20th March, 2026 in celebration of the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr. In a Hilaal (moon sighting) update issued to the Muslim community on Monday afternoon (16th February, 2026), Imam Yacoob Rafeeq Mohamed, Chairman of the Hilaal Committee and Public Relations Officer for ASJA and the Imams’ Council, confirmed that the birth of the new moon occured at 8:00 AM today (Tuesday 17th February, 2026), which corresponds with the 29th day of Sha’baan. PTSC Clarifies Increase In Bus Fares During Carnival Following Public Backlash

The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) said it wishes to clarify recent claims circulating on social media regarding bus fares during the Carnival period. This comes after public backlash over the Corporation’s recent announcement of temporary fare increases during the busy Carnival Season. However, in a Media Release issued a short while ago tonight (Sunday 15th February, 2026), the Corporation said the “temporary adjustment of fares on select routes during the Carnival Season is a long-standing and established practice. This measure has been applied consistently over the years and forms part of the Corporation's operational planning during periods of exceptionally high demand.” The Corporation added, “ Contrary to misinformation currently being circulated online, this practice is not new, arbitrary, nor outside of precedent. Blue Wave Harmony Sailing Rescheduled To Support Carnival Cargo Operations

The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) has adjusted the sailing schedule for the Blue Wave Harmony — which recently sustained hull damage — to accommodate increased heavy-cargo demand and ensure efficient vessel operations during the Carnival period. In order to meet operational requirements, PATT said the Blue Wave Harmony departed Port-of-Spain at 10:00 PM on Friday night (13th February, 2026) and was expected to berth at the Port of Scarborough at 7:00 AM, to allow priority loading and un-berthing of the APT James. The revised departure allowed for safe and efficient management of the existing fleet movement. Port Authority Issues Statement On Inter-Island Sea Bridge Operations

The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) is reiterating vessel maintenance requirements, fleet availability, and how the inter-island services are managed. Statutory Vessel Maintenance And Dry Docking In a Media Release on Monday (9th February, 2026), PATT said passenger vessels operating on the inter-island sea bridge are “withdrawn from service only in accordance with statutory requirements established by their classification society and flag state administration. Dry docking is not discretionary, nor is it scheduled based on seasonal demand, commercial considerations, or short-term operational pressures. The timing of dry docking is governed by mandatory class inspection cycles and technical thresholds, including engine running hours, as required under international maritime safety and certification standards. President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency, Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., has officially declared a public holiday on Friday 20th March, 2026 in celebration of the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr , in accordance with the provisions of the Public Holidays and Festivals Act , Chapter 19:05. The public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr last year was on Monday 31st March, 2025. Please be guided accordingly.

Buccoo Reef Vessel Returns To Service On Inter-Island Sea Bridge

The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) is advising the public that the Buccoo Reef vessel will re-enter service on the inter-island sea bridge from today (Monday 9th February, 2026) , adding significant passenger and vehicle capacity to the sea bridge. In a Media Release this morning, PATT said, “The Buccoo Reef can accommodate approximately 948 passengers and 160 vehicles, and its return brings the active sea bridge fleet to three (3) passenger vessels, and one (1) cargo barge. The vessel will operate alongside the APT James and Galleons Passage for passenger and vehicle service, with the heavy cargo barge Elgin-IV continuing to support the movement of construction materials, heavy freight, and essential cargo to Tobago. PATT said it “continues to co-ordinate sea bridge operations to strengthen reliability and manage demand while maintaining all safety and regulatory requirements.” Passengers are encouraged to visit the Inter-Island Ferry Service website at www.ttitferry.com...
