PTSC Clarifies Increase In Bus Fares During Carnival Following Public Backlash

The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) said it wishes to clarify recent claims circulating on social media regarding bus fares during the Carnival period. This comes after public backlash over the Corporation’s recent announcement of temporary fare increases during the busy Carnival Season.

However, in a Media Release issued a short while ago tonight (Sunday 15th February, 2026), the Corporation said the “temporary adjustment of fares on select routes during the Carnival Season is a long-standing and established practice. This measure has been applied consistently over the years and forms part of the Corporation's operational planning during periods of exceptionally high demand.”

The Corporation added, “Contrary to misinformation currently being circulated online, this practice is not new, arbitrary, nor outside of precedent. The temporary fare increase applies only to specific Carnival-related services and routes and is implemented to support extended operating hours, additional services, enhanced security arrangements, and the overall safe and reliable transportation of commuters and revellers.”

The Media Release concluded by saying, “The PTSC remains committed to providing safe, affordable, and accessible public transport, particularly during major national events such as Carnival. Members of the public are encouraged to rely on official PTSC communication channels for accurate and verified information. The Corporation thanks the travelling public for their continued co-operation and support.”

The PTSC previously announced that during the period of Carnival Saturday (14th February, 2026) to Carnival Tuesday (17th February, 2026), it will temporarily increase its fares for the below-mentioned routes. Services will return to normal on Wednesday (18th February, 2026).
