BODY of Woman Found Inside Abandoned Security Booth In San Fernando — Police Investigating

The decomposing body of a woman was found inside an abandoned security booth on the compound of an old panyard in San Fernando on Wednesday morning (16th September, 2026). While unconfirmed, the deceased is believed to be Marcia Thomas Singh, who residents said appeared to be in her 60s. She had been apparently residing in the security booth for some time.

According to the Hunters Search and Rescue Team (HSRT), led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, five (5) of its members were driving along Broadway, San Fernando, when they detected a foul stench, around 9:35 AM. Upon stopping their vehicle and investigating, they observed a decomposing body on a mattress inside a small wooden security booth on the abandoned Ministry of Works compound, near to Hatters Panyard. Inside the booth was a complete living quarters. The door was locked from the inside and had to be broken in order to gain entry.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) was subsequently contacted and responded to the scene.

Officers entered the structure and found clothing hung from several overhead lines, while other personal possessions were scattered across the floor, suggesting that the woman had been residing in the booth. A makeshift fireside, gas cylinder and other items were also found on the compound. Officers found a document bearing the name “Marcia Thomas Singh” among the woman’s possessions.

A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who viewed the body and ordered its removal to the mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

In a Facebook post following the discovery of the body, the HSRT said, “We thank our teammates, Kesraj ‘Tonga’ Sooknanan, Rishi Singh, Kyle Bowrin, Ravi Ramrattan and David Ramrattan for being vigilant while driving through the area. A foul stench was detected and checked. An ID card bearing the name above [Marcia Thomas Singh] was found inside the structure. Sleep in eternal peace Marcia Thomas Singh. GOD BLESSINGS.”

 

Residents of the area said they did not know the woman’s name but recognized her as someone who frequently collected water from a standpipe in their community. They described her as a quiet person.

Meanwhile, HSRT member, Ravi Ramrattan, who operates an auto-electrical garage nearby, said he often saw the woman near the corner of Independence Avenue and Rushworth Street, and that she was always properly dressed and clean, and was probably in her 60s.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding her death.
