SEVEN (7) Escapees From Immigration Detention Centre Plead Guilty To Escaping Lawful Custody

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), four (4) detainees who escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) on 18th July, 2026, appeared before Master Singh-Phillip at the High Court North A on Friday (24th July, 2026), where they pleaded guilty to the offence of escaping lawful custody. The four (4) male detainees were sentenced to terms of hard labour, ranging from nine (9) to fifteen (15) months.

Three (3) additional detainees appeared before Master Dalrymple Watts at the High Court North A on Tuesday (28th July, 2026), where they also pleaded guilty to the offence of escaping lawful custody. The three (3) male detainees were sentenced to terms of hard labour, ranging from one (1) to two (2) months.

All seven (7) detainees were scheduled to re-appear before the High Court today (Wednesday 29th July, 2026), to answer two (2) counts of assaulting a Police Officer.

Investigations are continuing into the incident.
