Met Office Issues Hazardous Seas Alert Until Wednesday Morning

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) for a total of fifty-seven (57) hours. The Alert begins at 11:00 PM tonight (Sunday 26th April, 2026) and will remain in effect until 8:00 AM on Wednesday morning (29th April, 2026) for Northerly and Northeasterly coastal regions, including to a lesser extent, North-facing coasts in the Gulf of Paria.

According to the Met Office, high-energy, long period Northeasterly swells are expected to produce large breakers, resulting in occasional deterioration of near-shore conditions along Northerly and Northeasterly coastal regions. To a lesser extent, conditions may extend to North-facing coasts in the Gulf of Paria. Maximum impacts are expected during High Tides.

Potential impacts include the disruption of near-shore activities (including swimming, fishing and boat mooring), along with sand displacement and salt-water intrusion.

Instructions:

  • All marine interests should exercise extra caution during near-shore activities and, where possible, limit near-shore activities, particularly along affected coastlines.
  • Monitor near-shore conditions and updates from official sources, including the TTMS at www.metoffice.gov.tt and ODPM at www.odpm.gov.tt.

Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS.
