Car Plunges 40 Feet Off North Coast Road — 5 Occupants Escape Death

Five (5) people are currently hospitalized after a vehicle they were in plunged approximately forty (40) feet off the North Coast Road on Sunday afternoon (26th July, 2026).

According to reports, the driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling North towards the Maracas Bay area, when he attempted to stop near Bay View to purchase cotton candy, around 3:45 PM. However, upon applying the brakes, the driver realized the vehicle was failing to slow down. 

The car struck a culvert before going over the edge of the roadway. The vehicle then fell about forty (40) feet down an embankment and landed on its roof.

Three (3) of the occupants managed to climb up the steep embankment to the roadway, while two (2) others had to be rescued by Fire Officers from the Wrightson Road and Santa Cruz Fire Stations, led by FSO Edwards.

All five (5) occupants were conveyed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH) for emergency medical treatment.

The driver sustained injuries to his limbs, a passenger suffered head injuries, another sustained abdominal injuries, a third suffered head injuries, while the fourth passenger sustained multiple head injuries.

The five (5) victims are said to be in stable condition.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident by PC Malchan.
