56-Year-Old Businessman Dies At Hospital Following Armed Robbery In Gulf View

A man has died at Hospital, days after a shooting incident during a robbery at his sales tent in Gulf View on Saturday night (14th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Vijay Nanan of Rousillac.

According to reports, the businessman and his employee, 40-year-old Yudelcy Martinez, were conducting sales at his tent along Gulf View Link Road, when two (2) men dressed in dark clothing stormed in and announced a robbery, around 7:00 PM.

Nanan allegedly refused to surrender and armed himself with a cutlass, in an attempt to defend his employee and the day’s earnings. A struggle ensued between Nanan and the bandits inside the small tent. Moments later, three (3) loud explosions were heard. 

When the chaos ended, Nanan was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and Martinez with a gunshot wound to the left arm. The gunmen fled West along the roadway with an undisclosed sum of cash, believed to be the day’s sales.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Officers from the San Fernando Police Station responded and both victims were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, Nanan succumbed to his injuries several days later.

He is said to have suffered a heart attack in 2018 and was later diagnosed with kidney failure, enduring dialysis and constant medical treatment since then.

Investigations are continuing into the robbery and fatal shooting.

Mandatory Fixed Penalty Warning System For These 18 Traffic Violations To Take Effect From Monday

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is advising members of the public that, effective from Monday (2nd March, 2026), mandatory Fixed Penalty Warnings will be implemented for eighteen (18) specified traffic violations contained in the Eleventh Schedule to the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act , Chap. 48:50, aimed at improving road safety, encouraging compliance, and promoting corrective action. In a Media Release on Friday (27th February, 2026), the Ministry said, “ Motorists in breach of the listed violations will be issued a Fixed Penalty Warning instead of a Fixed Penalty Notice. Police Constable Hospitalized In Critical Condition Following ‘Incident’ At Sangre Grande Police Station

UPDATE (24/02/26): The injured Officer has been identified as PC Jonathan Bonaldo, who is assigned to the Sangre Grande Police Station. He is still receiving treatment for his severe injuries at Hospital. Bonaldo reportedly managed to get to his feet after his fall and made his way into the station’s Charge Room. Bleeding from the head, he is said to have rested his head on the Station Diary, leaving it stained with blood. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Santa Cruz last night (Wednesday 25th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old labourer, Hakeem Baker, also known as “Peng,” of Northwest Drive, Patna Village, Diego Martin. He was gunned down inside a car. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Barataria earlier today (Sunday 1st March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Rivaldo Pierre of Gilkes Street, Four Roads, Diego Martin.  According to reports, Pierre was shot inside a house along 10th Street, Barataria.
