25-Year-Old Priority Offender Denied Bail After Matura Shooting

A 25-year-old man appeared at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court after he was charged with multiple firearm-related offences, following a shooting incident in Matura.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), following extensive enquiries, Tyrese Thomas of La Guira Gardens, Matura, was charged with:
  1. Shooting with intent;
  2. Possession of a firearm;
  3. Possession of ammunition;
  4. Possession of a firearm to endanger life;
  5. Possession of ammunition to endanger life;
  6. Discharging a firearm within 40 meters of a roadway.

On Monday (3rd February, 2025), the accused appeared virtually before Master Kaleisha Ambrose-Persadsingh, where he was denied bail. The matter has been adjourned to 8th August, 2025.

According to Police reports, at approximately 12:40 PM on Tuesday 28th January, 2025, a 42-year-old labourer was driving his vehicle into La Guira Gardens, Matura, when he observed two (2) men.

Moments later, the men allegedly began shooting in the direction of his vehicle.

Fearing for his life, the victim immediately turned around and sped off, then reported the incident at the Matura Police Station.
