WASA Condemns Fraudulent Communication Regarding Overdue Water Bill Payments

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) said it has become aware of a fraudulent notice circulating to customers, falsely claiming to be an official communication from the Authority regarding overdue water bill payments.

In a Media Release today (Wednesday 26th March, 2025), WASA said it “strongly condemns this malicious act, which is clearly intended to deceive and exploit our valued customers. This fraudulent message, which instructs customers to make payments via a suspicious link, is NOT authorized by WASA. The Authority does not engage its stakeholders in such an unprofessional or coercive manner. We urge the public to treat this communication with extreme caution and to refrain from clicking on any embedded links or providing personal or financial information.”

WASA outlined how it officially engages customers, as follows:

1. Official Notices: WASA communicates with customers through formal letters, official emails (from verified WASA domains), and authorized SMS messages.

2. Payment Channels: Legitimate WASA payments are made via:

  • Our official website (www.wasa.gov.tt) - Customer Portal;
  • Designated bank institutions;
  • Western Union;
  • Approved payment kiosks and any of our nine (9) Customer Service Centres.

3. Customer Service: Queries can be directed to WASA’s Customer Contact Centre, toll free, at 800-4420 to 800-4426 or through established social media platforms.

The Media Release concluded by saying, “Stay vigilant. Always confirm the authenticity of WASA communications. WASA remains committed to transparency, integrity, and proper customer engagement.”

Please be guided accordingly.
