Education Ministry: ALL Schools Ready For Opening On 8th September, 2025
The Ministry of Education said it is pleased to report substantial progress on its July/August Vacation Repair Programme (VRP) and confirms that all 279 Government and Government-assisted primary and secondary schools selected for extensive upgrades will be fully prepared to welcome students for the start of the new Academic Year 2025 - 2026, on Monday 8th September, 2025.
In a Media Release on Tuesday (2nd September, 2025), the Ministry said a total of 246 schools have had their full scope of repair works successfully completed. An additional twenty-five (25) schools are in the final phases of upgrades; however, these ongoing works will not impact the re-opening of schools, as the Ministry said “comprehensive measures have been implemented to ensure the safety and comfort of staff and students.” Furthermore, the Ministry notes that eight (8) schools were “addressed through specialized initiatives, including targeted projects, corporate partnership collaborations, and emergency repair interventions to guarantee their readiness for the new academic term.”
The twenty-five (25) schools undergoing the final stages of repairs are grouped as follows:
According to the Ministry, “The National Maintenance Training and Security Company Limited (MTS) has been engaged by the Ministry of Education to serve as Project Manager for the comprehensive construction, repair, and maintenance programmes across school facilities throughout Trinidad. These projects are being implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry's Executive teams. Together, the teams have worked closely with school principals and contractors to ensure that all facilities fully comply with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff.”
Minister of Education, Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, commends the efforts of all involved, stating, “I am proud that, through collaboration and strategic planning, all schools will be ready to open on schedule. Ensuring that our schools are safe, secure, and welcoming for every student is a top priority as we continue to provide schools with the required funding, equipment and supplies to deliver quality education.”
The Ministry added, “The Vacation Repair Programme remains a key priority of our National Education Strategy, representing the most extensive effort to date. Recognizing the challenges posed by an aging school infrastructure, ongoing and proactive maintenance is essential to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of our educational facilities.”
The Ministry said it “extends its appreciation to all stakeholders — including contractors, MTS teams, and School Supervisors — for their commitment to ensuring that students and school personnel return to safe and well-maintained learning environments.”
The Media Release concluded by saying, “Further updates on school readiness and maintenance initiatives can be found on the Ministry's website (https://moe.gov.tt) and all social media pages as we continue to prioritize the delivery of quality education in secure, well-equipped facilities.”
