There was a temporary road closure earlier today (Thursday 4th September, 2025) along Edward Street, between Independence Square South and Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, due to a tree fire incident.
The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service was able to extinguish the blaze. However, the base of the tree was completely burnt out, leaving it unstable and posing a significant hazard to motorists and pedestrians. As a precautionary measure, the roadway was cordoned off.
Officers of the Central Police Station were on-site, preserving order and directing traffic to ensure the safety of all road users. No injuries were reported, and there has been no damage to nearby property.
The Port-of-Spain City Corporation was contacted and a team sent to attempt to safely cut down and remove the damaged tree. A team from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) was also dispatched to secure electrical wires that may have been affected by the fire.
In the interim, Officers were stationed in the area until the roadway was safely re-opened.
