Father And Son Shot Dead By Police Inside Cunupia Church; Guns Seized, Other Relatives Held
A father and son are both dead following a Police-involved shooting incident inside a Church in Cunupia early this morning (Thursday 2nd October, 2025). The deceased have been identified as 52-year-old Alvin Daniel and his 28-year-old son, Avindra Daniel Bharath, aka ‘Indian’ and ‘Bobo.’
According to reports, a Police operation began shortly after 5:00 AM, when Officers arrived at the Community Bible Church, located at Persad Avenue, Mon Plasir Road, Cunupia, where the men were renting an apartment upstairs. The Officers allegedly came under heavy gunfire from inside the Church, forcing them to return fire. Both men were struck and conveyed to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where they subsequently succumbed to their injuries.
Three (3) firearms were allegedly seized during the exercise and two (2) other relatives — a man and a woman — who were upstairs at the time, were detained for questioning.
The shooting took place in the downstairs portion of the Church building, which the family had been occupying.
Bharath was said to have been wanted by Police in connection with a string of extortion cases in Central Trinidad.
Investigations are continuing into the deadly Police operation.
