Met Office Issues Hazardous Seas Alert Until Wednesday Morning
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) for Northern and Northeastern exposed coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago, including North-facing coastal areas of the Gulf of Paria to a lesser extent. The Alert begins at 5:00 AM on Saturday (4th October, 2025) and will remain in effect until 9:00 AM on Wednesday (8th October, 2025).
According to the Met Office, high-energy, long period, North/Northeasterly swells, in combination with Spring Tides, are expected to agitate seas over the period with exacerbated conditions at High Tides. Larger than normal breakers with large, battering waves are expected in the surf zone. Near-shore activities, including fishing, swimming and boat moorings can be disrupted. Impacts may also include intrusion of salt water and displacement of sand, further than the average reach point. There will be slight improvement on Monday morning (6th October, 2025), with conditions returning to more agitation after 12:00 PM.
Instructions
- All marine interests should carefully monitor nearshore/coastal sea conditions and exercise extreme caution along identified areas.
