33-Year-Old Couva Woman Found Hanging In Garage — Police Investigating
A woman was found hanging in the garage area of her home in Couva early Friday morning (31st October, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Stephanie Ragunath of #106 Maple Drive, Mc Bean, Couva — originally from Williamsville. She was reportedly found hanging hours after refusing a hug from her husband.
According to reports, Officers from the Couva Police Station were on mobile patrol, around 5:08 AM, when they were notified of the incident. Upon arrival at the location, they were directed by Ragunath’s husband to the garage area, where they found her lifeless body hanging from a scarf, tied to the garage’s support beam. She was wearing a multi-coloured nightdress.
The husband stated that around 3:00 AM, he was with his wife on their bed when she refused a hug. He later woke around 5:00 AM to find her missing, and subsequently discovered her body.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced her deceased with no visible marks of violence, and ordered the body removed to the San Fernando General Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
Crime scene investigators processed and photographed the area but recovered no evidence of foul play.
Investigations revealed that the woman had recently confided in her husband about past infidelity, which had reportedly affected her deeply. She appeared depressed in the days following, sought comfort at her mother’s house, and had attended a therapy session the previous day.
Investigations are continuing while family and community members mourn the tragic loss.
