58-Year-Old Owner of Gloria’s Bar Shot Dead In Rio Claro — Police On The Scene

UPDATE (04/11/25): A relative told Newsday they strongly suspect Boodan’s murder may be linked to a dispute involving unpaid services to an “obeah man” earlier this year. Reports suggest the dispute dates back to July, when the alleged spiritual advisor reportedly sent messages and videos, through an intermediary, claiming to be owed money for services performed on behalf of Boodan against a woman. It remains unclear how much money was involved.

A businessman is dead following a shooting incident in Rio Claro this morning (Monday 3rd November, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Sylvan Boodan, aka ‘Lawah,’ of Jeffers Crossing, Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro — the proprietor of Gloria’s Bar, located on the ground floor of his residence. He also worked as a straightener and painter at R. Baldeosingh Services Limited (RBSL), a construction company located along San Pedro Road

According to reports, Boodan was on the compound of RBSL, when he was called out by name, by a man standing near his car, around 8:30 AM. After a brief exchange, a single gunshot rang out. The gunman ran off, and Boodan collapsed.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Upon arrival, Officers found Boodan’s body lying motionless on the roadway, near his vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The area was cordoned off as investigators gathered evidence.

Police are currently at the scene but have not yet established a motive for this murder.

Residents described Boodan as a hardworking, respected man. As far as they are aware, he had no enemies in the area.

Investigations are continuing by Officers of the Rio Claro Police Station and Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region II.

More on this as it becomes available.
