Over $1.8 Million In Taxes To Be Paid By FIVE (5) Establishments

A joint bar check exercise conducted in the St. Joseph Police District on Thursday (30th October, 2025), resulted in the issuance of several notices to licensed premises, found to be in breach of their licences and in possession of gaming machines, contrary to the Gambling Act.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the exercise, which took place between 2:30 PM and 7:00 PM, involved the inspection of five (5) licensed premises. Notices for taxes to be paid were issued as follows:

  1. One establishment was ordered to pay $156,000 for six (6) wall machines and one (1) roulette device.
  2. The second establishment was ordered to pay $192,000 for twelve (12) wall machines and one (1) roulette device.
  3. The third was ordered to pay $48,000 for thirteen (13) wall machines.
  4. The fourth establishment was ordered to pay $336,000 for nine (9) wall machines and one (1) roulette device under a Members Club Licence.
  5. The fifth establishment was ordered to pay $1,128,000 for forty-two (42) wall machines and one (1) roulette device under a Recreational Club Licence.

The total amount of outstanding taxes to be paid amounts to $1,890,000.

The exercise was spearheaded by ACP Singh, Snr. Supt. Gift, and Supt. Jaggernauth, under the direct supervision of ASP Bharath and Ag. Sgt. Baksh. It involved Officers of the St. Joseph Police Station, the North Central Division Task Force – West, and three (3) Criminal Tax Investigators attached to the Ministry of Finance, Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) Section.
