1 Dead, 1 Critical After Car Hits Pothole At High-Speed, Crashes Into St. Joseph River — Several Occupants Flee Wreckage

A man is dead and another in critical condition at Hospital following a high-speed road traffic accident in St. Joseph early Sunday morning (21st December, 2025). The deceased, who has not yet been identified, is described as a man of African descent who was wearing a grey three-quarter pants and a multi-coloured t-shirt.

According to reports, a gold Nissan Almera (PBW 5161) was traveling West along the Eastern Main Road at a high rate of speed, between 2:00 AM and 2:20 AM, when, upon reaching the vicinity of My Care Pharmacy, near the St. Joseph Bridge, the vehicle reportedly struck a pothole. The driver lost control, causing the car to swerve off the roadway and plunge into the St. Joseph River.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Upon arrival, Officers found an unidentified man lying motionless in some bushes, approximately twenty (20) feet down an embankment from the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were also informed that several occupants fled the vehicle after it crashed into the river, leaving behind a man identified as Kareem Stoute of Maloney, who sustained serious injuries. Stoute was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, where he remains warded in critical condition.

Investigations are continuing into the fatal crash.
