Gasparillo Man Dies In Highway Crash Involving Dump Truck Near ANSA Motors, Chaguanas
A man is dead following a road traffic accident along the Uriah Butler Highway in Chaguanas early Friday morning (5th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Zion Forbes of Caratal Road, Gasparillo. He was a front-seat passenger in a Nissan Sentra that collided with an Isuzu dump truck.
Police said they received a report of a serious traffic collision along the Uriah Butler Highway, near ANSA Motors, around 2:30 AM, and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they observed a white Isuzu dump truck, driven by a man of St. Mary’s Village, Moruga, lodged in a drain directly in front of the ANSA Motors compound, facing South.
A red-and-silver Nissan Sunny was also observed positioned on the far-right of the roadway, facing North. The vehicle’s driver, a 23-year-old man from Gasparillo — one of Forbes’ friends from his neighbourhood — along with two (2) unidentified female passengers, were outside the car, suffering from visible injuries.
Forbes, who was in the front-seat passenger side of the Nissan Sunny, was found unresponsive. Fire Officers attempted to free him from the wreckage, but he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a District Medical Officer (DMO), who ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre, pending a post-mortem examination.
According to the driver of the Isuzu dump truck, he was traveling North in the middle lane of the Highway and was attempting to change to the far-left lane, when his vehicle was struck from behind by the Nissan Sunny.
All other injured occupants were transported to medical facilities in Chaguanas for treatment.
Both vehicles were later removed by a wrecker service and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station for further examination.
Speaking with the Trinidad Express, one of Forbes’ sisters, Shenica Sosa, 42, said, “My advice to drivers is: do not drink and drive. If you are drinking, stay off the roads.” Sosa said her brother left home on Thursday evening (4th December, 2025), after telling his family that he was headed to a pool hall in Las Lomas with his friends, who were celebrating their birthdays. Before he left, he asked one of her daughters to make his bed and that he expected to return around three (3) or four (4) o’clock the next morning [Friday].
“I got the news that he got into an accident. Then they called back and said he died in the accident. I cannot say for sure what happened because everyone is giving a different story. All of them who went on the lime are friends from the neighbourhood,” said Sosa.
The sister said when she arrived at the scene of the collision, her brother’s body had already been removed.
“Zion [Forbes] was a fun-loving person, he loved to party and lime. He was our only brother. He was the eighth of nine (9) children. He loved to have fun. He worked construction part-time and odd jobs,” Sosa added.
The death of Forbes took the number of road fatalities to 104 for the year, compared to 112 for the same period last year.
Investigations are continuing into the fatal crash by PC Ram of the Chaguanas Police Station.
