20-Year-Old Man Chased, Shot Dead Along Cumuto Main Road; TEN (10) Spent Shells Found
A man is dead following a shooting incident along the Cumuto Main Road in Wallerfield on Thursday night (8th January, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Nicholas Rodney of Orinoco Road, Wallerfield.
According to reports, Rodney was standing on the roadway at the corner of Tractor Pool and Cumuto Main Road, when he was approached by an armed assailant, who chased him in a Northerly direction along the Cumuto Main Road and opened fire. Rodney was struck multiple times about the body and collapsed on the roadway. However, the gunman then reportedly stood over him and fired additional shots before fleeing in an unknown direction.
Officers on mobile patrol in Arima received a report of loud explosions heard in the vicinity of Cumuto Main Road and responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Officers observed Rodney lying motionless on the Western side of the roadway in a pool of blood.
The area was immediately cordoned off and the relevant authorities were notified.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who viewed the body, made certain pronouncements, and ordered its removal, pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
Crime scene investigators recovered ten (10) spent 9mm shell casings.
Police have not yet established a motive for this murder.
Investigations are continuing and Police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information they may have.
