Education Ministry Confirms Successful Start To Term II, Academic Year 2025/2026
The Ministry of Education said it is pleased to report a successful start to Term II of the 2025/2026 Academic Year. Schools across Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Primary, and Secondary Levels reopened on schedule, with teaching and learning resuming without major disruption nationwide.
In a Media Release on Monday (5th January, 2026), the Ministry said, “In preparation for the re-opening of schools, the Ministry approved a total of eighty-two (82) infrastructure projects during the period December 2025 to January 2026. Of these, thirty-five (35) projects were executed under the Ministry's Vacation Repairs Programme (VRP), while an additional forty-seven (47) projects were completed as emergency works at ECCE centres, as well as primary and secondary schools. The scope of works included repairs to roofs and ceilings, sewer and drainage systems, washroom facilities, air-conditioning units, water lines, and electrical infrastructure. These repairs were successfully implemented in collaboration with the National Maintenance Training Services (MIS).”
Additionally, the Ministry notes that operations of the National Schools Dietary Services Limited (NSDSL) have resumed successfully on Monday. Approximately 62,000 breakfasts and 75,000 lunches were delivered to students, with sixty-seven (67) kitchens fully operational across the country.
The Ministry said it attributes the positive start to the term to “co-ordinated planning, proactive school leadership, and the continued dedication and commitment of principals, teachers, support staff, parents, and students.”
Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education, commended the education community for its collective efforts, stating:
“Education is a shared national responsibility, and this smooth reopening demonstrates what is possible when all stakeholders work together to keep our children learning, safe, and supported.
As we continue this academic year, our focus remains on quality, equity, and relevance in education.”
The Ministry is further confirming that school supervision, support services, and district-level monitoring “remain active to ensure that any emerging concerns are addressed promptly.”
The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Ministry of Education extends sincere thanks to all stakeholders for their continued co-operation and encourages parents and guardians to maintain close engagement with schools in support of student attendance and achievement throughout the term.”
