T&TEC: NO Electricity On Monday In Parts of Couva And Manahambre

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Couva and Manahambre on Monday (20th April, 2026). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works.  According to T&TEC, the affected areas in Couva and Manahambre are as follows:  COUVA (5:00 AM to 8:00 AM) From LP #W3 heading North along Esperanza Road up to LP #66W on the Rivulet Road (in the vicinity of NGC Maintenance Compound). NO Curfew: Prime Minister RESPONDS To Killing of Female Police Officer, Disposal of Bodies At Cumuto Cemetery

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, issued a statement a short while ago tonight (Sunday 19th April, 2026) in response to two (2) recent incidents that have caused great concern amongst the population — the brutal killing of Acting Woman Corporal Anusha Eversley and the illegal dumping of fifty-six (56) bodies at the Cumuto Cemetery . According to the Prime Minister, “I have been advised that the incident which occurred earlier today at the San Fernando City Corporation Municipal Police Station on Kings Wharf was not an external attack on the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) or the National State security services. 50 Infants Among 56 Bodies Found Illegally Dumped In Mass Grave At Cumuto Cemetery — 2 Men In Custody

Dozens of bodies, including fifty (50) infants, have been found illegally dumped in a mass grave at the Cumuto Cemetery on Saturday morning (18th April, 2026), in what is being described as a major breach of protocol and public trust. According to reports, Police Officers uncovered a total of fifty-six (56) human remains at the cemetery, comprising fifty (50) infants, four (4) adult males and two (2) adult females. Authorities say many of the adult bodies were found with identification tags still attached, while at least two (2) showed signs of prior post-mortem examinations. The grave reportedly measured six (6) feet by three (3) feet. Investigators believe the bodies were being buried in a single pit when Police were alerted to suspicious activity at the site. UPDATE 8:  Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has revealed that stolen firearms may have been leaving the San Fernando Municipal Police Station and being sold on the black market for months. Speaking to reporters after a sod-turning ceremony at the Hilton Garden Inn, South Park, San Fernando, on Wednesday 22nd April, 2026, the Prime Minister disclosed that early findings suggest a prolonged pattern of illegal activity involving weapons stored at the station. According to her, information gathered so far indicates the removal and sale of firearms was not a recent development, but a sustained operation that may have gone undetected for as long as eight (8) months. The Prime Minister suggested that the duration of the alleged activity points to significant lapses in oversight. NO More Domestic Departure Lounge At Piarco Airport From 24th April, 2026

UPDATE (24/04/26): The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago announced this morning (Friday 24th April, 2026) that the relocation of domestic operations, scheduled to begin from today, has been postponed until further notice. According to the Authority, “The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints will not take effect at this time. We appreciate the continued co-operation of our stakeholders and the public as preparations continue.” All domestic passengers will therefore continue to be processed through the Domestic Departures area on the ground floor of the Piarco International Airport, with standard check-in and security procedures remaining in place. Authorities have not provided a new timeline for implementation but indicated that work toward the transition is ongoing. 32-Year-Old Woman Shot Dead In Edinburgh 500; 2 Men Wounded — Police Investigating

UPDATE: CCTV footage of the fatal shooting has emerged, which shows gunmen approaching the front of the property and opening fire on the trio as they attempted to scamper for safety. The gunmen then ran off. A woman is dead and two (2) men wounded following a shooting incident in Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, last night (Friday 17th April, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Shanice Morris, a former employee at Guardian Life. Her young son, who was nearby at the time, was not harmed. According to reports, Morris drove to visit her boyfriend, Keon Alexander, at his residence, located at the corner of Victoria Drive West and Queensway Drive, Balmoral Park, Edinburgh 500. Upon arrival, she left her 6-year-old son seated in the vehicle and entered the yard.  Moments later, however, gunmen opened fire in the yard and Morris was caught in the attack.  She was shot and subsequently died in the driveway. SRP Officer Arrested — Charged With Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Common Assault

A Special Reserve Police (SRP) Officer has been arrested and charged following investigations conducted by the Special Victims Department. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a part-time SRP Constable, attached to the Moriah Police Station, was arrested on Wednesday (15th April, 2026) and expected to appear before the Tobago Assizes today (Thursday 16th April, 2026). He has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and common assault. Investigations revealed that on Tuesday 18th March, 2025, the victim, who was at the time in a common-law relationship with the accused, was walking along Village Street, Mt. St. George, Tobago, when she was approached by the accused in a motor vehicle. The accused allegedly forced the victim into the vehicle against her will and restrained her using handcuffs.
