Caribbean Airlines Pilot, Technicians Removed From Active Duty After Emergency Landing Incident

Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) confirmed an emergency landing was declared for flight BW 1541, enroute from Tobago to Trinidad on Monday night (27th January, 2025). Reports state the aircraft encountered an engine issue on its way to Trinidad.

A pilot and two (2) technicians have since been removed from active duty following the startling incident.

In a brief Media Release issued at 11:00 PM on Monday night, CAL said the ATR 72-600 aircraft “landed safely at Piarco International Airport and all the required operational procedures are being followed regarding passengers and crew. The aircraft will be taken out of rotation to facilitate inspection.”

During urgent questions in the Senate today (Tuesday 28th January, 2025), Finance Minister Colm Imbert confirmed the suspension of the crew and the investigation into the aircraft.

Minister Imbert, however, hinted that a fuel issue may have been the cause and not necessarily an issue with the aircraft itself. “There are three (3) persons involved, the pilot and two (2) technicians. With respect to the whole question of how much fuel was in the particular tank that fed the particular engine that had the problem. So they have been, I don’t want to use the word withdrawn from service but the aircraft has been withdrawn from service and these three (3) individuals are not in active service at this point in time which is normal when you’re doing an investigation,” he said in the Senate.

Investigations are continuing.

More on this as it becomes available.
