Child Among FOUR (4) Shot Dead In Morvant Massacre — Police Investigating

UPDATE: Reports state that (2) suspects, identified as “Rhino” and “Son Son,” are now being actively sought in connection with the brutal quadruple murder in Morvant. Police are said to be on high alert for possible reprisal shootings in the Belmont and Morvant districts, amid fears of escalating gang retaliation following the killing of the child.

A child and three (3) adults are dead following a brutal shooting incident on the Lady Young Road in Morvant last night (Sunday 19th April, 2026). A fourth adult was also wounded. The deceased child has been identified as 9-year-old J’layna Armstrong of Nicholasville, San Juan, while the three (3) adults are 23-year-old Obataiye Okerian Latiff of Eight Street, Don Miguel Road, San Juan, 20-year-old Chelsea Edwards of Senior Street, Belle Eau Road, Belmont, and Asim Armstrong of Mc Shine Road, Belmont.






According to reports, the four (4) victims were in a red Mitsubishi Lancer when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle along the Lady Young Road, near the Shiloh Seventh-Day Adventist Church, around 7:50 PM.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle riddled with bullet holes and crashed across the roadway. Inside the vehicle were the four (4) victims, all suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. None showed signs of life and all were subsequently pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the occupants were ambushed while driving along the roadway after attending a family lime at Harry’s Water Park in Tabaquite earlier that evening, and were on their way home when they were targeted. Reports indicate that another vehicle pulled alongside them, and its occupants opened fire, unleashing a hail of bullets on the Lancer. The driver lost control during the attack, veering across the road and colliding with another vehicle before coming to a stop.

A fifth occupant of the vehicle was shot twice in the back and rushed to Hospital by relatives before Police arrived. He has been identified as 23-year-old Cornelius Smart of Gonzales. He remains in stable condition at this time.

A video has surfaced which shows a woman screaming for her relatives who were in the bullet-ridden vehicle, shortly after the massacre.

Crime scene investigators recovered thirty (30) spent 5.56 shells and fifteen (15) spent 9mm shells.

Police suspect the killings may be gang-related.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the horrific quadruple murder.

UPDATE (18/04/26): A post-mortem examination conducted at the Forensic Science Centre on Friday (17th April, 2026) revealed that Frederick Aaron Stevenson died from blunt force trauma to the head, with investigators alleging he was killed with a sledgehammer before his body was dumped in a forested area off Esmeralda Road, Las Lomas. UPDATE (24/04/26): The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago announced this morning (Friday 24th April, 2026) that the relocation of domestic operations, scheduled to begin from today, has been postponed until further notice. According to the Authority, “The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints will not take effect at this time.
