Cache of Illegal Items Seized At Port-of-Spain Prison
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a joint exercise was carried out between 7:00 AM and 1:15 PM at the Port-of-Spain Prison on Wednesday (5th February, 2025).
During the exercise, multiple prison cells were searched, leading to the discovery of several illegal items, including fifty-one (51) cellphones, thirty (30) cellphone chargers, fifty-three (53) lighters, and 207 grams of marijuana. Other items found included improvised weapons, knives, digital scales, earbuds, wrapping paper, and cigarettes.
The TTPS said this exercise follows a similar one conducted on Friday 31st January, 2025, at the Maximum Security Prison, Arouca, where Officers from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Investigations, laid charges against four (4) prisoners.
Further charges are expected in relation to the recent findings at the Port-of-Spain Prison. The TTPS a notes that authorities are continuing their efforts to clamp down on criminal activities from behind prison walls.
The exercise was co-ordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ms. Suzette Martin, Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Carlos Corraspe, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Lee Davis, and Senior Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. Thomas. The exercise was supervised by ASP Stanley and included members of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB), Crime Scene Investigators (CSIs), and the Prisons Emergency Response Unit (ERU).
