TWO (2) Teens Die, Another Injured In Car Crash Near Flower Pot Beach — After Evading Police Roadblock

UPDATE 2: The 16-year-old unlicensed driver failed to stop during a Police roadblock out of fear of getting in trouble with his mother — whose car he took without her consent. He is now facing possible criminal charges. One of the survivors alleges that as the driver sped off from the roadblock, King and the other occupants started screaming and begging him to stop. He said King told the driver to do the right thing, but he instead accelerated down the Beaumont Hill until he ran off the road, lost control, started to spin on the road and finally crashed into the light pole.

UPDATE: There were a total of five (5) occupants in the Tiida. The two (2) other persons were the 16-year-old driver and a 14-year-old passenger — both escaped with minor injuries. Police said the driver and the front-seat passenger became disoriented as a result of the crash and wandered away to a nearby area, but were found some time later.

Two (2) teenagers are dead and a third seriously injured in a car crash after the driver managed to evade a Police roadblock in Pointe-a-Pierre last night (Monday 10th February, 2025). The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Kelita Jamal King of Riverside Road, Battoo Boulevard, Marabella, and 19-year-old Trey Collymore of Harmony Hall, Marabella.

The third passenger, identified as 16-year-old Joel Yarde of Second Street, Battoo Avenue, Marabella, is currently warded at the San Fernando General Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

According to reports, Officers from the Marabella Police Station were conducting a roadblock exercise on the Southern Main Road, Pointe-a-Pierre, near Tropical Plaza, around 9:40 PM, when they observed a red Nissan Tiida driving at a fast rate of speed along the road. The Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and drove off at the same speed.

Officers proceeded to chase after the Tiida, whose driver reportedly lost control near Flower Pot Beach, Pointe-a-Pierre, and veered off the road, hitting a light pole. The impact badly damaged the front and rear of the car.

Police found three (3) male passengers of African descent pinned in the back seat. The driver reportedly fled the scene.

The Mon Repos Fire Services, led by FSSO Solomon, were called for assistance and were able to utilize the ‘Jaws of Life’ to remove the passengers from the mangled wreck.

Emergency medical personnel at the scene examined King but found no vital signs. Yarde and Collymore were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. However, Collymore died of his injuries while being treated.

Investigations are continuing by W/Cpl. Changoor.

More on this as it becomes available.
