Prime Minister Stuart Young Announces Plans To Establish New Ministry of Implementation and Efficiency (MIE)
Prime Minister the Honourable Stuart R. Young, SC, has announced plans to establish a new Ministry — the Ministry of Implementation and Efficiency (MIE) — within the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, following the upcoming General Elections. This new Ministry, under the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), will aim to enhance the delivery and execution of Government initiatives.
Prime Minister Young made the announcement at the official opening ceremony for the La Brea Community Centre today (Friday 21st March, 2025).
In delivering the feature address, the newly-minted Prime Minister stated, “I am going to introduce, for the first time, a Ministry of Implementation and Efficiency in the Government of Trinidad and Tobago out of the Office of the Prime Minister, because for too long, things get lost in abeyance.”
The Prime Minister said the Ministry will deal with the inefficiencies across the system, break bureaucracy within the confines of the law and get things done.
In a Facebook post this evening, Prime Minister Young stated, “Earlier today, I shared a plan to establish a Ministry of Implementation and Efficiency (MIE) within the Office of the Prime Minister, purposefully designed as a focused Ministry that strengthens the State’s ability to deliver on some of its priority delivery projects to the benefit of citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.”
He said the MIE “will serve as a catalyst for effective, co-ordinated, and results-oriented governance, working across Government Ministries and agencies to improve project execution, reduce systemic inefficiencies, and accelerate the delivery of specific strategic national initiatives that directly benefit the people. Firmly rooted in the principles of good governance, democratic accountability, and public sector collaboration, the MIE will serve as a strategic and constructive approach to public sector delivery. Crucially, it will do so while ensuring that the day-to-day management of the country and the continuity of State operations across all Ministries remain uninterrupted and on course.”
P.M. Young added, “This Ministry will not replace existing institutions nor will it be responsible for any job losses. Rather, it will work alongside existing institutions, introducing a more supportive, co-ordinated and effective approach to implementation. It will also require new staff. This MIE represents a strategic, logical, and necessary step forward in the evolution of Trinidad and Tobago’s national governance and delivery system. It reflects our collective ambition to modernize public service delivery, uphold transparency, and ensure that progress is not just promised, but realized in ways that positively impact lives.”
The Prime Minister’s statement concluded by saying, “The MIE is a forward-looking investment into the systems, people, and partnerships that will define a more responsive and capable Trinidad and Tobago. I am looking forward to an exciting New Chapter for Trinidad and Tobago.”
