TEN (10) Arrested, Ammunition, Illicit Drugs Seized In Northern And North-Central Divisions
Ten (10) persons were arrested, and a quantity of ammunition and illicit drugs were seized during a series of anti-crime exercises conducted in the Northern and North-Central Divisions on Friday (7th March, 2025).
According to Police reports, Officers on mobile patrol were alerted to a suspect in possession of an illegal ammunition at a barbershop located on Southern Main Road, Curepe. Upon investigating, the Officers conducted a search of the premises, which led to the discovery of three (3) rounds of 16-gauge ammunition hidden in a drawer. A 32-year-old Venezuelan national, who was working as a barber at the location, was arrested and transported to the St. Joseph Police Station. He was charged with possession of ammunition.
In a separate operation, the TTPS said a roving drug block was held in the Arima District between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. During the exercise, Officers observed a 38-year-old suspect engaged in transactions involving the sale and weighing of cannabis. Upon searching the suspect, Officers seized sixty (60) grams of cannabis, a silver scale, and $1,540 in cash. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana.
Later in the day, a 40-year-old man reported to Police that he was approached by a suspect while selling market produce at the Namdevco Macoya Wholesale Market. The suspect threatened him with a firearm and demanded money. The victim complied, handing over $9,000 in cash. The suspect then fled in a white Nissan AD wagon. However, security personnel at the market intervened, and Officers from the Tunapuna Police Station and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) apprehended a 32-year-old man from Arouca in connection with the robbery. Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
Additionally, a warrant exercise conducted between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM in both the North-Central Division (Area East and Area West) and the Northern Division, led to the arrest of nine (9) individuals who were wanted for outstanding warrants.
