31-Year-Old Businesswoman Shot Dead At Ree’s Kitchen In Chase Village

A businesswoman is dead following a shooting incident in Chase Village this afternoon (Thursday 11th September, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Jennell Mohipath of Church Street — part-owner of Ree’s Kitchen, located on the Southern Main Road, Chase Village, next to Rich Gold Hotel. The business serves breakfast, roti, soup and barbecue.

According to reports, a gunman alighted from a gold Toyota Axio and walked into the food outlet, around 12:00 PM, and opened fire on Mohipath, hitting her several times about the body. She was said to be wearing a black apron, white jersey, brown long pants and slippers. The gunman then got back into the vehicle and escaped along the Southern Main Road. 

The suspect is described as being of African descent, medium built, wearing a black fisherman’s hat, with a green rag covering his face.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Officers from the Freeport Police Station responded and found Mohipath’s body with gunshot wounds on the floor of the serving area of the food outlet. However, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. Coldero viewed the body and ordered its removal for safekeeping, pending an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

A search for the killer was conducted without success. He remains at large at this time. 

Police have not yet established a motive for this murder. 

Investigations are continuing by WPC Knights.
