31-Year-Old Man Shot Dead By Police In Port-of-Spain
A man is dead following a Police-involved shooting incident along St. Paul Street, Port-of-Spain, early this morning (Thursday 18th September, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Anderson Rodriguez, aka ‘Elmo,’ of Picton Road, Laventille.
According to reports, Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) intercepted a suspicious vehicle along St. Paul Street. When challenged, the occupants reportedly opened fire on the Officers, prompting them to return fire in the direction of the suspects.
Following the gunfire, Rodriguez was found wounded at the scene and was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH), where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
At least two (2) other suspects managed to escape during the shootout.
Police confirmed two (2) firearms were recovered at the scene.
Investigators said the suspects, who were involved in a recent bar robbery in the Port-of-Spain district, may have been on their way to carry out a shooting or possible murder in the St. Paul Street community.
Investigations are continuing.
