37-Year-Old Construction Worker Arrested In Fyzabad, Shotgun Seized

An intelligence-led operation conducted by Officers of the Penal Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the South Western Division (SWD) Gang Intelligence Unit, has led to the seizure of a firearm and the arrest of a 37-year-old man in Fyzabad.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 1:00 PM on Friday (12th September, 2025), a team of Officers, co-ordinated by ASPs Corrie and Forbes and sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Thompson, executed an operation at Bamboo Trace, Pepper Village, Fyzabad. The exercise included Officers from the Penal CID and the SWD Gang Intelligence Unit.

Upon arrival, the TTPS said Officers identified themselves to the occupant, a 37-year-old construction worker. Nothing illegal was found during the house-search.

Following further questioning, however, the suspect led Officers to a bushy area approximately 350 feet behind his home, where he pointed out a hollowed, dried tree trunk. Inside, Officers discovered a shotgun, wrapped in a black garbage bag.

The suspect is not the holder of a Firearm User’s Licence (FUL), nor was he exempted under Section 7 of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:01. He was cautioned, arrested, and informed of his constitutional rights and privileges. He was then taken to the Penal Police Station along with the seized firearm.

Enquiries are continuing.
