According to reports, Officers from the Ste. Madeleine Police Station were notified of a motionless body lying along a track near the Friendship Village Recreation Ground at Cipero Road, Ste. Madeleine, around 12:55 PM. Upon arrival, Officers met a woman who said she was walking through the area around 12:50 PM, when she saw several dogs nearby. After investigating, she discovered the body of a young girl lying on her back with what appeared to be a bruise to her stomach and grass around her neck.
The girl was subsequently identified as Mariah Seenath, a Form Three student at San Fernando East Secondary School.
Seenath reportedly left her grandmother’s home at Cipero Road, around 7:00 AM on Saturday morning to return to her father’s home in Hillview, Friendship Village, using the same track where her body was later found.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) also visited the scene, pronounced Seenath dead and ordered her body removed to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary for safekeeping, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre in St. James.
Investigations are continuing.
