Charlie Kirk Assassination: 22-Year-Old Tyler Robinson Taken Into Custody
United States authorities announced this morning (Friday 12th September, 2025) that they have taken 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah into custody for the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Wednesday afternoon (10th September, 2025) while on stage at Utah Valley University (UVU). Robinson attended Utah State University for a single semester in 2021, according to authorities.
Kirk, 31, a father of two (2) young children, was sitting under a tent around 12:20 PM on Wednesday, debating with students at UVU, when a single bullet struck him in the neck before he slumped out of his chair. He was invited to speak at the University by the campus chapter of Turning Point USA, a national conservative student group he founded.
Kirk was one of the most influential figures on the right and played a prominent role in U.S. President Donald Trump’s outreach to young voters during the 2024 election — which turned out to be an overwhelming success.
The suspect’s father was said to be involved in taking him into custody. Robinson’s relatives and his roommate also co-operated with investigators.
Following the deadly shooting, a high-powered bolt-action Mauser .30-06 rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the assassin fled. Bullet casings with inscriptions were found by authorities. The etchings included the phrases, “Notices,” “bulges,” “OWO,” “what's this?,” “Hey fascist! Catch!,” “Bella ciao bella ciao ciao,” “If you read this, you are gay LMAO,” and a series of arrows, one (1) pointing up, one (1) pointing to the right, and three (3) pointing down.
Robinson allegedly discussed his dislike for Kirk in the days leading up to the shooting. He also discussed details of the assasination plot with his roommate on the Discord app, sending messages about stowing and retrieving a rifle from a “drop point.” He allegedly mentioned disposing of the weapon afterwards, wrapped in a towel, mentioned engraving the bullets and that the scope and rifle were “unique.”
President Trump has called for the suspect to get the death penalty if found guilty for killing Kirk. Speaking this morning (Friday 12th September, 2025) live in studio on “Fox & Friends,” Trump said, “I think with a high-degree of certainty, we have him.” He added that, “essentially, someone who knew him turned him in.”
Trump also explained how investigators found the suspect — with help from a minister, a member of the U.S. Marshals Service and the suspect's father. “We have the person that we think is the person we're looking for, but they drove into the Police Headquarters, and he's there now,” the President said.
Robinson was allegedly arrested in clothes he was seen wearing on CCTV footage prior to the shooting, which are different from the ones he was allegedly wearing at the time of the crime.
His car, a gray Dodge Challenger, was also tracked from the UVU campus to his home.
No additional arrests are expected, according to authorities.
