Murder-Accused Bail Revoked After Breaching Conditions In Cunupia
A murder-accused who was previously released on bail has been remanded into custody after breaching conditions of his Bail Order.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Masud Rasheed, who had been granted bail by the Honourable Justice N. Singh on 27th February, 2023, was subject to strict conditions. Among them, he was required to reside at a residence located at Munroe Road, Cunupia, and observe a nightly curfew between 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, while Police Officers from the Cunupia Police Station were granted leave to conduct routine checks during these hours. The Order also expressly stated that any breach would result in immediate revocation of bail.
Police reports state that around 11:37 PM on Wednesday (10th September, 2025), Officers attached to the Cunupia Police Charge Room, along with other Patrol Officers, were conducting mobile patrols along Asgarali Street, Munroe Road, Cunupia. During the exercise, an Officer observed a man walking along the roadway with a cloth covering his head, which raised his suspicion.
The Officers stopped their vehicle, called out to the individual, and instructed him to remove the cloth. Upon complying, the man was identified as Masud Rasheed, who was at the time on bail for a murder charge. One of the strict conditions of his bail required him to remain at his residence between the hours of 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, with Officers of the Cunupia Police Station authorized to make checks during that period to ensure compliance. As Rasheed was found in breach of this condition, PC Raphael informed him of the violation, cautioned him, advised him of his rights, and effected his arrest.
The matter was heard on Thursday (18th September, 2025) before Master L. Singh-Phillip. After reviewing the bail conditions, considering the accused’s admission to the breach and his explanation, and pursuant to Section 15(5) of the Bail Act, the Court revoked the bail and ordered that Rasheed be remanded into custody.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor North, Ms. Avion Hoppie, before the Masters Court, with legal support provided by State Counsel Gilliana Guy and the Bail Team of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The TTPS said it “reaffirms its commitment to enforcing all bail conditions imposed by the Courts and ensuring that individuals granted bail comply with the law.”
