Southbound Highway Traffic As Truck Crashes Into Concrete Barriers Near Bhagwansingh’s, Chaguanas

UPDATE (5:35 PM): An ODPM PANS (Public Alert Notification System) Alert has been issued, which states: “A road traffic accident on the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway near the Chaguanas overpass has resulted in severe traffic congestion. Consider alternative routes or delaying your commute. The public is advised to follow official sources for additional information and updates.”


There are reports of a massive traffic pileup on the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway this afternoon (Wednesday 17th September, 2025), after a truck crashed into several concrete barriers near Bhagwansingh’s Hardware, Chaguanas.

Reports state the axle of the truck broke during transit, which led to the crash. There are no reports of serious injuries and no other vehicle appears to have been struck.

Motorists heading South from Port-of-Spain are advised to seek alternative routes as various levels of traffic have been reported as of 5:20 PM, from Wrightson Road in Port-of-Spain, all the way to shortly after the site of the accident, near Bhagwansingh’s Hardware, Chaguanas.

Investigations are continuing into the crash.
