SRP Officer Charged With Manslaughter of Fellow SRP Officer; Granted $250K Bail

A Special Reserve Police (SRP) Constable has appeared before a Master of the High Court, charged with the manslaughter of SRP No. S0295 PC Jamal Charles, which occurred on Thursday 11th September, 2025.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), No. S0289 PC Anton Phillip, 22, was charged with the offence when he appeared today (Wednesday 17th September, 2025) before Master Indira Chinebas.

He was granted bail with surety in the sum of $250,000 and the next hearing date has been set for 12th January, 2026.

PC Charles, 38, was on duty at the Guard Room, on the compound of the Ministry of Rural Development, Kent House, Maraval, on Thursday 11th September, 2025, in the company of two (2) Officers, with their firearms out of their holsters, when a loud explosion was heard. The victim was subsequently found with a gunshot wound to the left-side of his mouth. 

The TTPS said a male Police Officer was arrested on that same date by Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region I.

Investigations were supervised by ASP (Ag.) Ramjag, Insp. (Ag.) Seecharan, Insp. (Ag.) Ramsumair, Insp. (Ag.) Stanislaus and Legal Officer, PC Felix, all of the HBI Region I, with the assistance of Sgt. Biggart, attached to the Forensic Science Centre and other various agencies. 

PC Phillip was charged with the offence by Sgt. Ramroop, also of HBI Region I, following advice received from Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, on Monday (15th September, 2025).
