Car Plunges Off San Fernando Hill — Mother, 6-Year-Old Daughter Hospitalized
A mother and her 6-year-old daughter have been hospitalized after their car plunged approximately 200 feet down a precipice at the San Fernando Hill on Tuesday afternoon (14th October, 2025). The victims have been identified as 44-year-old Kahaema Byer of Palmiste, San Fernando, and her 6-year-old daughter, Isabella.
According to reports, Byer was driving a gold-coloured Nissan Tiida with her daughter, heading North down the San Fernando Hill, around 4:10 PM. Upon reaching near the Haji Shaffick Rahaman Park, which is a dangerous bend, Byer reportedly lost control of the car, ran off the roadway and plunged approximately 200 feet down a precipice on the Western side of the steep slope. The vehicle then landed in some bushes at the bottom.
A 23-year-old female passerby immediately rescued Isabella from the wreckage.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Fire Officers from the Mon Repos Police Station also responded and were able to rescue Byer.
Isabella is said to have suffered minor bruises to her face and feet and complained of pain in her right arm. Her mother also complained of pain in her arms and about the body. Both victims were subsequently taken to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) for medical attention.
In January 2024, 39-year-old Renée Mitchell of Corinth succumbed to her injuries after falling nearly eighty (80) feet off a cliff at the San Fernando Hill during a fete. Mitchell, a school teacher at Brighton AC Primary School, died on 28th January, 2024, in what Police described as a freak accident.
Investigations are continuing into this latest incident by PCs Ramrattansingh and Williams of the Mon Repos Police Station.
More on this as it becomes available.
