A man was seriously injured in a road traffic accident along the Eastern Main Road, Damarie Hill, Sangre Grande, this morning (Sunday 5th October, 2025). The injured man has been identified as 35-year-old Keron Popo of Foster Road, Sangre Grande. He is said to be the owner of “The King Strip Restaurant” and a father of three (3).

According to reports, a large dump truck laden with sand collided with the driver’s side of a white Hyundai H-100 pickup truck (TED 1646), with “Kevpro” branding, around 9:30 AM, near the Recreation Ground at Damarie Hill. The H-100, driven by Popo, sustained extensive damages.

The dump truck driver, who has not been identified, alleges he was heading in a Westerly direction when he noticed the white H-100 in the Eastbound lane. He moved to the extreme left in order to avoid a head-on collision, but the pickup struck the right-side of his truck.

The truck driver immediately rushed to assist Popo, who was lying unresponsive across the seat. Other motorists and bystanders attempted to help but were unable to free him.

Police and Emergency Health Services were notified. Fire Officers also responded and had to utilize the ‘Jaws of Life’ to extract Popo from the mangled H-100.

He was then conveyed to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

The accident caused a massive traffic pileup in the area.

Investigations are continuing into the crash by the Sangre Grande Traffic Branch.
