Father And 9-Year-Old Son SHOT During Targeted Attack In Maloney Gardens
A father and his 9-year-old son were wounded during a terrifying home invasion at their apartment in Maloney Gardens early this morning (Wednesday 15th October, 2025). The man has been identified as Akeem Young.
According to reports, Young and his son were asleep in their apartment at Building 16, Apartment 3-2 South, Maloney Gardens, when he was awakened by loud banging on his front door, around 4:00 AM. Upon checking, he saw two (2) masked gunmen attempting to break into his apartment.
One of the men opened fire, forcing Young to flee into his son’s bedroom for safety. However, the gunmen stormed into the apartment, followed him and continued shooting, hitting Young in his left big toe and his 9-year-old son in the left heel and right elbow.
The gunmen then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and the wounded victims were conveyed to the Arima Health Facility. The child was later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope for further treatment.
Crime scene investigators recovered eight (8) 9mm spent shells.
Investigations are continuing.
