Female SRP Officer Apprehends Chain-Snatcher Who Stole Her Chain In Port-of-Spain
Swift and decisive action by a female Special Reserve Police (SRP) Officer led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of her stolen gold chain, following a chain-snatching incident in downtown Port-of-Spain on Thursday (9th October, 2025).
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), around 5:10 PM, the Officer was walking along Charlotte Street, when a man allegedly snatched a gold chain with a blue cross pendant, valued at $2,200, from around her neck, before fleeing South along the roadway.
The TTPS said, without hesitation, the Officer gave chase while contacting the Police Command Centre and calling out for assistance. During the pursuit, a nearby pedestrian who recognized the Officer shouted, “That is a Police! Lock him up! Call the Police!” Moments later, the suspect stopped and handed back the stolen item.
Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) quickly responded and detained the suspect, who was taken to the Besson Street Police Station, pending further investigations.
The TTPS said it “commends the swift response of the Officer and the alert actions of the public, whose co-operation contributed to the successful outcome of this incident.”
