National Energy Takes Action To Recover Over US $90 Million Owed By Port And Pier Users
National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy) manages the nation's tugs, port and pier infrastructure. The income generated from these assets accrue to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
In a Media Release on Wednesday (1st October, 2025), National Energy said, “For years, several users of the ports and piers have been delinquent in making payments to National Energy. This state-of-affairs cannot continue. During the past two (2) weeks, National Energy issued formal notices to users with significant arrears, advising that failure to clear these balances will result in suspension of their access to the facilities.”
According to National Energy, some of these arrears have remained unpaid for more than 120 days, well beyond the standard 30-day terms of payment. The total sum owed now exceeds US $90 million.
Users were provided with a further fourteen (14) days to settle their accounts. Since this action has been taken, National Energy said it has recovered more than TT $35 million.
The Media Release concluded by saying, “National Energy remains committed to providing safe and reliable port services for the benefit of all users and the wider economy.”
