Ramco Gas Tank Explosion In Penal: 26-Year-Old Man Dies In ICU, Father Vows Legal Action

A man is dead following a devastating gas tank explosion at his home in Penal on Monday 13th October, 2025. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Bevaughn Joseph of Sunrees Road, Penal. He succumbed to his injuries while at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the San Fernando General Hospital on Friday (17th October, 2025), after suffering severe burns. His father has since vowed to take legal action against Ramco.

According to reports, Joseph was at home when the gas tank, which had allegedly been recently purchased from Ramco, suddenly exploded downstairs in the two-storey structure, causing significant damage. Joseph suffered extensive burns on the majority of his body.

Police, Fire and Emergency Health Services were notified and the victim was conveyed to the San Fernando General Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where he was listed in critical condition.

The Fire Services have since confirmed that the explosion originated from the gas cylinder, according to a Police report.

Joseph’s father, Brian Joseph, described the devastating moment his son took his final breath, saying, “He died seconds after I went into the ICU and called his name. He just raised his head — and that was it.” The elder Joseph said he intends to take legal action, insisting that his son’s death should have never happened.

Joseph’s death has renewed public concern over gas safety, especially in Penal, coming just weeks after another resident, identified as Ria George, died in a similar explosion at her home in the same area.

Investigations are continuing while Joseph’s family is calling for justice and stricter safety oversight to prevent any such further tragedies.

More on this as it becomes available.
